I have to agree with most of what people are saying.
As much as I hate it that people will loose their jobs, I for one am glad GAME is going under.
I remember seeing a pre-owned game that was more than the sale price of another and when I mentioned it, they said they knew but there was nothing they could do, because everything was done at head office. I thought to myself they must be mad. You cannot run a business like this.
I also had problems with them charging £49.99 for new titles and or full price for others when I could go to Tesco and get the game cheaper and get a pint of beer to boot!
They really only catered for the Mums and Grandparents who didn't know better and went to a branded store. I was always dying to shout out "your being ripped off" but hey, not my business.
In the end, game got greedy, opened too many shops in expensive locations (which reflected their prices) and wasn't prepared to move with the times.
Never understood the argument that you could get the game cheaper from Game on-line than in-store and they always said it's because the on-line store was in Jersey or some other tax haven.
This guy spent more time saying you were going to be getting the sun, moon and the stars, but only gave you false hope.
Lets see. This game won't go F2P for a long time. We will have F/E weekly. Klingon Faction will be up to scratch soon. PVP will get new stuff.
So on and so on.
Just as F2P is about to hit, guess what I'm leaving but all you subbers and Life timers, you will not notice any change to your current subs and the game will be the same for you.
1 month later, 1 month, he's back cap in hand, tail between his legs.
Now he's back again to offer you more pie in the sky. Oh and more locked boxes I bet...
Plenty of content? Not heard of the content drought of 2011 where for nearly a year nothing?
STO is now essentially a grind fest unless you want to spend money. I don't mind some grind, but when nearly everything is a grind and a boring one a that, well sorry, STO is just an insult to the Star Trek IP.
Ahh, wonder if camping the sand giant in the ocean of tears for days, for the ancient ring of ro for the boots of speed or something equivalent, is still done!!!
Also remember getting a Fungi tunic for my monk. God you were nigh on invincible!!!
Great experience back in the early 0s!!!
I will weep the first time I hear the words "train"!
Wow, because a Cryptic Dev come on and basically blames Atari for everything, everyone gives them a free pass and believes everything he says.
Remember Cryptic sold themselves to Atari as a company that can make cheap MMo's in under 2years which is exactly what they did.
Okay, he's been honest, but for 8 months the rest of Cryptic haven't been.
This DStahl loving, really suprises me. Wasn't he saying months ago how they were going to be bring out a lot of new stuff and that he's currently playing a new ep now? How about all the Klingon stuff thats he said was on the way and be patient, big things are coming. Oh and STO is not going to go F2P for the foreseeable future. Yea right.
If they were as dire straights as they were, people would not have subscribed and because they basically lied, they "conned" people into subbing and staying. Heck they made these people basically pay for the F2P crowd to come in.
Talk is cheap and so is this interview. Lets see if they can get new content out and I don't mean ships and grab bags. So far, the "only 2 FE a year" doesn't fill me with confidence that PWE has their back.
F2P is last chance saloon and me thinks PWE is going to put all their eggs into the Cryptic engine and NWN and doesn't care too much about STO.
I was expecting a game that captured the flavor of ST with big battles, PVP, Crafting and plenty of things to do like a lot of MMos give you. What we got was single player, rushed out, double dipping no content game. Scratch that, make your own content so we can still double dip.
If it was just called space on line, it would have lasted a month however because of the gullible ST fans (of which I was one), it has keept the game on life support.
When Jedi's first came out, I remember they were hard to find because if they were killed, they lost a lot exp or something (cannot remember).
They would prance about out side their houses with the rest of the Jedi cream puffs, flexing their sabres and showing off. I turned up once as a Bounty hunter as one of the Jedi's had a bounty on their head. I laughed and joked with them all for about an hour and they started dueling. I asked if I could duel them and they said yes, but not to kill them. I proceeded to open up full throttle on the Jedi I wanted and killed him. My god my chat up window was alive with expleatives and such and I was told I was a £$%£$ and a "£!"£!"3 and so on. I just laughed and laughed and laughed and then logged off quickly...
Was my best time as a BH and I will never forget that gullible Jedi!!!!
After that the game stunk but i did play it for 2 years non stop!!!
So lets say i am a fan of the classic star trek and I want to try STO (you can find in bargain bins for £3.99 now). I want to use an iconic ship so I want to fly the connie, no wait! I have to either buy it extra or do a ridiculous grind on what Cryptic and the fanbois call a "casual" mmo (contridiction there eh).
That aside, they are realsiticaly making STO 2 with all the major changes. Major changes tend to come down the line not straight away since launch but still the heart of the game is a souless like most of Cryptics stuff. Nope, Souless and Shallow.
It's the taken peoples subs + charging for C-Store stuff that makes my blood boil over this game. Then when they released the foundry under the pretence of "it's great you can make your own stories", it was really just a "we just cannot do more content so make your own". The Fanbois love it, the rest can see through the smokescreen.
I want to Cryptic to fold and the IP taken away and given to another. To those who say "we will never see another STO game" well I say good, if this is the type of tripe that is released, then we don't need one.
Just waiting now for Kitlor, Nagus,Armsan,Leviathan and the rest of the die hard Cryptic fans to come on now and do their usual "We love you Cryptic",hire us please"...
