Minecraft digging in on Xperia Play before other Android devices
May 25th 2011 3:23AM (Joystiq)Really? I mean, it was sort of understandable when he was developing it by himself and had no money that he could sell the beta so he can work on it, but now that he has a company and quite a lot of money, why not just focus on finishing it and then release it as a completed game?
New Xbox 360 update incompatible with some models, MS offering replacements [update]
May 19th 2011 7:40AM (Joystiq)I'm feeling really luck here too. I have a launch model xbox aswell, that finally started having major problems a few weeks ago. Its long since out of warranty, so I'm really happy I didn't go out and buy a new xbox because of this.
Class action lawsuit filed against Sony for security breach
Apr 27th 2011 6:20PM (Joystiq)Or, you know, it's about punishing Sony for failing to adequately protect the personal info of their consumers?
Sony may be hit with £500K fine over PSN data loss
Apr 27th 2011 6:10PM (Joystiq)This isn't in anyway comparable to a girl being raped. This is more comparable to say giving money to a bank, who then instead of securing in a vault for safe keeping leaves the money out in the open and someone takes. The bank is responsible for the stolen money because they didn't probably protect it. Same deal with Sony.
Oh hey, we're storing all of your personal and billing info in easy-to-get, non-encrypted form. Uh-oh someone went and stole all that info and is now likely selling it on the black market, it's not our fault even though we had the responsibility of protecting that info, and making sure it doesn't happen in the first place!
Sony may be hit with £500K fine over PSN data loss
Apr 27th 2011 5:53PM (Joystiq)This definitely wont. The fact that they're going to be getting slapped with class-action lawsuits over this means that it wont die down in time for E3 in a few months. Sony screwed up very, very, very badly, and I'd be surprised if anyone would ever actually trust using the PSN after it comes back up, if it even comes back up, after this.
The fact that they had all of this information, including billing info, in an unencrypted, unsecured format that was easy to grab shows they either they don't care at all about protecting their consumers or that they're horribly incompetent in regards to security. It's really inexcusable.
Minecraft clone coming to Xbox Live Indie Games: FortressCraft
Feb 22nd 2011 8:45PM (Joystiq)Woah, calm down there buddy. I love minecraft as much as everyone else, but you gotta be pretty dense to sit there and try to deny that the idea didn't come from infiniminer. I commented 'cause I chuckled at the irony of the op's comment.
Copying isn't always bad when you manage to push the idea further along, like what happened in Minecraft's case. As for this game, I don't care for it because as you said it just looks like an exact clone of minecraft, which I already own on the PC. Nothing new.

Battlefield 3 stops by 'Paris, Tehran and New York,' down to 24 players on console

Battlefield 3 stops by 'Paris, Tehran and New York,' down to 24 players on console
Feb 8th 2011 2:32AM (Joystiq)Actually, I can tell you a pretty good reason that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Sure, part of it may be because what's going to be happening in BC3 would be too intense to have more than 24 players playing at once on consoles, but I think the reason it wont support up to 64 players is the issue of dedicated servers.
Sony provided dedicated servers for Resistance, and MAG for free. Normal players simply do not have the connections to support that many players, and EA isn't gonna provide dedicated servers of their own for free, dedicated servers aren't cheap and they don't have a console they have to push with exclusives. As far as I know there's no way for players to host their own dedicated servers on xbox live or PSN, so there you go.
Paypal accounts for World of Warcraft gold sellers now on notice
Jan 31st 2011 2:34AM (Joystiq)Well, it was your fault in the first place for stripping your characters of everything on them. Gold Sellers wreck MMO economies, just look at what happened to FFXI where you couldn't even buy good gear because the prices were so inflated. Blizzard has done a pretty good job at controlling it the inflation (though it's pretty much impossible for new players to be able to afford anything off the ah), but there's other major problems with the game that are a direct cause of people like you who buy gold.
Why do you think account hacking and theft is so prominent in the game that GM tickets are in a permanent status of busy? Because gold sellers get their gold from hacking into people's accounts, and stripping them of everything valuable. When you buy gold, you''re supporting this behavior. The other method gold sellers use is to use those hacked accounts (often the inactive ones they come across) to use bots and game-hacks to mass farm material nodes in the game stripping the zones clean of anything, denying legitimate players from farming their own stuff without it taking forever to do.
So boohoo, Paypal is sending warnings to gold sellers. Good riddance, I'd say.
