Ace Combat Assault Horizon comes in for a retail landing October 11 [update: trailer!]

May 11th 2011 9:03PM (Joystiq)
@ReadingRambo

There are encounters at range. Close Range Assault is a fully optional mode, you are not always tailing aircraft. If you watch the trailer you'll notice a green circle that gradually gets bigger, and when it fills the full screen it zooms in and enters you into CRA mode.

The thing is, why are you playing Ace Combat for anything even related to realism? I feel like in all of the previous AC games (which I spent hours S-ranking) I would try and maneuver my plane to see cool stuff, like what happens by design in Close Range Assault mode, in 4, 5, Zero, and 6. In addition, giant flying fortresses aren't exactly plausible either, so why not fighting at ultra close range? I've heard a lot of people making your point, but it never makes sense to me no matter when I hear it.

Looks epicly janky and samey.

I might pick it up in a year to giggle and show it to South Koreans who don't believe this game could even exist because it is so ridiculous.

@BoBsS It's completely implausible. COMPLETELY. I've got a degree in Korean Studies; the idea that North Korea could effectively mount an effective invasion of anything except South Korea is a joke. In fact, leave out 'effective' as they don't have enough gas to drive across the border anyway.

@wunwunx The team working on Homefront got started modding the PC Battlefield series games. They've never done anything else, haha.

Interesting you think Modern Combat is best, considering Bad Company is no doubt the favorite.

@Invigilator I really liked Desert Combat, but it was far from the best multiplayer shooter ever made; and it's important to remember it was a mod, and the work of coding the engine was all but left out. Don't misunderstand, DC was great, but so were a lot of 1942 mods, and so are a lot of other games. It had its fair share of problems.

@danaceb TV stations are certainly not non-profit; keep up the "I'm a stupid asshole" act, it suits you.

@The Aquacharger They want people to buy StarCraft 2, not Brood War, which is essentially free to play in Korea as long as you're in a PC방. In addition, KeSPA is an authoritarian, corrupt organization that squeezed as much money out of Brood War as it could without giving Blizzard a dime.

One pro player phrased it this way: "Going from KeSPA (StarCraft league) to GSL (Blizzard sponsored StarCraft 2 league) was like going from communism to capitalism."
