Dyack's defense: Too Human haters 'just don't get it'

Aug 19th 2008 4:52PM (Joystiq)
Umm.

"It's ironic, it just shows that human nature of if you don't understand something, you immediately attack it."

That puts the lawsuit in an interesting light.

Channing Brown hurls on you in Resistance 2 ARG video

Jul 31st 2008 4:26PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Ok, so I watched the video, and then listened to the tape reel.

I went in with, like, really low expectations. I really had no idea what to expect.

DAMN THAT'S GOOD.

I mean, wow, am I impressed now. Such *clever* marketing, and such brilliant voice acting. So much better quality than what I was expecting, for no particularly good reason, I guess. I just assumed these things were less sophisticated than this.

I hope the game can live up to the advertising.

MEGAowch: Haze handed 4.5 review by IGN

Just to be clear: GTA4 was not delayed by six months shortly before it was released; they did move a date, but it was telegraphed long in advance; same for snaku in MGS4.

No, the only other game in my short and damaged recent memory to get the "back into the oven" treatment was Army of Two, and that didn't go well either.

MEGAowch: Haze handed 4.5 review by IGN

Riddle me this:

Name the last time an announcement was made to delay a game by six months, shortly before its release, which did not end up getting badly reviewed.

I mean, look at these complaints. "Bad voice acting". Well, no, shit, sherlock. How are we not all used to this by now? It's an FPS, low-quality acting is a staple in the genre.

"Game too easy as a mantel soldier". Fine by me, I suck.

"Never get a feeling that the enemy uses nectar against you". Again, I suck; maybe we were just *especially* junkie, and only the true junkies cross over and become rebels. Just like in real life, the ones who are most against drug use are the ones who were *really* caning it in their youth.

No, what I have a problem with are games that ship with bugs. Really, truly pisses me off - it's like being slapped in the face by a developer. Shovelware. So for me, the comments on the bugs are what will ultimately determine whether or not I buy.

If they have any brains whatsoever, they'll read every review, and fix every one of those bugs, and then announce that they did so. If they're smart, they'll announce the bugfix list in public on the playstation blog, so that everyone knows they're on the ball and that they didn't mean to ship crap.

Until then, I'll wait and see on it. Split-screen multiplayer is too rare and beautiful a gem to discard just because there are a few flaws in the stone.

But if they don't fix the bugs, screw 'em. I don't need another orange box.

'Virtual Iraq' treats PTSD with modded Full Spectrum Warrior

May 19th 2008 8:54PM (Joystiq)
I just saw a report on CNN of a soldier that shot copies of the Koran for target practice. I just want to say what lazy, uncreative idiots our game developers have become - I mean, if a grunt in a desert-shaped oven can come up with brilliantly self-harming ideas like that, how come the games are so lacking in new ideas?

I look forward to seeing Koran-shooting in Postal 4. Chuck in a bible, some dead sea scrolls, and a Torah while you're at it. Oh, yeah, and Buddha Grenade Practice, while we're at it.

'Virtual Iraq' treats PTSD with modded Full Spectrum Warrior

I can see the headlines now.

"Army's murder simulator adds rape, dogs, naked people pyramids to Full Spectrum Warrior".

I'm so excited. I can't wait to see the new features.

Valve: Left4Dead will come to PS3 if another dev wants to port it

May 6th 2008 2:04AM (Joystiq)
It's going to be a long time before I touch another Valve 'hands off' product. I expect better from Valve games, and I expect better from Valve.

They might as well have given their PS3 customers hot pokers to sit on, because I think all of us who bought orange box got pretty burned and have the scarred ring to prove it.

A look back through time: Sadness

Jan 3rd 2008 2:24AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
It's about time someone called 'em on this. They've looked dodgy ever since day one, and I've been predicting ever since the first 'raid on the river' bullshots that there was never going to be anything out of Nibris.

I'll bet it's some kind of EU-funded, cash sinkholing startup. Anyone look through the EU grants lists for the last few years and see if Nibris or a parent company is listed?
