Xbox 360 used more for video and music apps than for gaming

Mar 27th 2012 6:56PM (Joystiq)
@A Sandwich You're missing the point entirely, because Microsoft continues to spend money and time on this crap and doesn't even have a next-gen console on the radar.

This won't kill of gaming, but it will cause massive set-backs because of the conflict of interest. Microsoft could update dev kits and focus on making a great gaming machine, or they could just keep releasing video apps.

Doesn't matter to me, I gave up on Xbox a few months ago. My 120k gamerscore is nothing more than a bitter reminder of what once was.

Now I game on my iPhone and sometimes my PS3 (which used to collect dust in between Uncharted games).

MLB.TV app slides to Xbox 360 today

Mar 27th 2012 9:56AM (Joystiq)
Well that would be useful if it wasn't already on my TV and my Apple TV and PS3 and if I had an MLB.TV subscription or even cared at all.

Will someone please release a new gaming console that doesn't look like 2006 and doesn't focus on apps and motion gimmicks!?

Rumor: Stripped down Xbox planned for 2013

Good old Microsoft, copying every single Apple move since the 80's.

I bet this will float about as well as Windows Phone... that is to say, it will fizzle out like the Zune in due time.

Innovation is what makes Apple a market leader instead of a follower, which seems to be where Microsoft is content being. Which in my opinion is a shame because I used to love my Xbox (I have 3 of them!) and every day I like it a little bit less.

MLB 12: The Show fouled up by online pass issues

* Not just piracy but used game sales or whatever the momentary motivation is (there's always something to complain about and lost profits to be recovered for these greedy companies).

Simple fix #2: Stop trying to prevent piracy at a user level and go after the distributors and propose sensical laws that don't trample on free speech and enterprise.

PSA: Angry Birds Space blasts off

I got 3 eagles when I beat the first 10 levels. Not much, I'll grant you.

Time will tell, though, from playing the game, if payment is required for anything other than the achievement or if the supply of eagles will be short.

Just bugs me, I read a review for WindupKnight claiming IAP were required to unlock the levels and I passed on it, later to take a chance on it and find out the review was inaccurate and the unlocks could easily be earned, and I've found since that most games employ this strategy, and the only people who must pay are the lazy.

Kid Icarus Uprising review: Uplifting

I do want this but I have a hard time justifying the $40 price tag when I have unplayed games on my iPhone... sure they're not the same quality as this, but they're not horrifically bad, either.

If this game was as low as $20 I'd buy it in a heartbeat, or maybe even $30 (the old price of Gameboy games). But in today's market my buck goes a whole lot farther elsewhere.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for all of this.

Or you can earn them for free by playing the game, which it clearly states in the iTunes description.

Angry Birds Space trailer hits before tomorrow's launch

It will come out with half the content at 2-3x the price a little later when Microsoft gets around to certifying it and fitting it into their slow-trickle release schedule, don't you worry.

New iPad sales surpass three million over weekend

Mar 21st 2012 8:38AM (Joystiq)
What is this shit?

3 million sales in a weekend on the THIRD iteration of a product and people still act like it's just sheep to the slaughter? Are you kidding? This product is clearly valuable and appreciated.

Note to Joystiq users: many of your favorite developers have ditched consoles and PC gaming to develop iOS apps. It has the largest install base of any system that could be called a "game system" (unless you want to count generic Windows instances).
