Anti-Wal-mart senator tries to get PS3 from... Wal-mart

Nov 17th 2006 10:36AM (Joystiq)
Wal-Mart isn't permitted to open in NYC because they refuse to meet the standards to hire workers.

Something's wrong with that picture, no?

As for me, I'd prefer to go to a game shop to buy games, a grocery store to buy groceries, a drug store to buy... um... drugs, and a hardware store to buy tools. Maybe I'm agoraphobic, but stores that are too large bug me.

PC Gamer lures PS3 buyer with $7500 gaming rig

Nov 17th 2006 10:10AM (Joystiq)
The PC would be the best gaming platform if it weren't for one thing... sofas are more comfortable than swivel chairs. Every game that is on both PC and console I prefer on PC, unless it's a really weak last-minute port (Sonic CD in 1996? lol).

The aftermath: PS3 launch and first impressions

Nov 17th 2006 7:29AM (Joystiq)
I work the night shift at a Toys R Us in Queens NY, from 11PM-7AM, and there was a good number of people outside the door all night. It was biggest at around three in the morning, but I suppose some people left because they figured a crappy local TRU wouldn't have too many. The store doesn't open until nine... damn. They really want PS3's and/or Profit.

Today's hottest game video: Official Wii commercial

Nov 16th 2006 7:20AM (Joystiq)
Many movies are featured on the front page of YouTube every day... but they don't beat out stripteases. Must be part of that "buzz" we're all hearing about.

Anyway, it's far from the best commercial in the world, but at least it doesn't insult my intelligence like the PS3 spots do. It shows game clips and shows people using the controller, having fun. The one sentence of speech is simply "we would like to play" or whatever he said. No pretentious dribble about the next generation or new generation or revolution or anything. No puzzling imagery. Just games.

The Cell can solve a Rubik's cube in a second. The JVM on my old-ass PC can print out the solution to any cube instantly with the right program (spoiler: JVMs slow everything down A LOT). Wow, good job of showing your superiority.

Metareview - Final Fantasy III (DS)

Nov 16th 2006 6:42AM (Joystiq)
Numbers mean nothing. I read these reviews and it makes me want to run out and get the game even more. I've played through Dragon Quest I through IV more times than I can count, it would be nice to finally have a new experience that is similar.

"Oh my god I died in a game. This game sucks, because I'm totally 1337." Wait, but remember when games took fifty tries to beat, and there were no saves so you had to play everything through over and over trying to get to the same point without losing as many lives? "Those games have teh kiddie grafx. They suck. Halo 2 FTW!!!1111!!!one."

Gamer apparel: the king of games

Nov 15th 2006 9:48PM (Joystiq)
"Try to kill the bugs and protest the flowers".

I don't know... these shirts are a little too... how can I put this... "Japanese". Let me know when an American, European, Korean, Somali... hell, any other culture in the world... releases a line of shirts dedicated to Game & Watch.

Message board complaints ruin games

He forgot to list the type of gamer that complains you have to press A to read the signs.

Dude, did my controller just talk? (Wii delight #1)

"Why don't we have Vladimir Cole write these?"

Because he only plays free hardware that costs 600 bucks.
