Why is this surprising? Although the wii u will likely sell like hotcakes, its not coming out for another year. Right now, people are going to be reluctant to buy a wii, knowing that a backwards comPatible and much better system is on horizon. So investors are drawing thei money out expecting less than stellar sales numbers in the near future (and consequently lowered conser comfidence in the company) and will likely reinvest in a few mths
Sorry. Haven't played many FPSes (Other than metroid Prime) since Goldeneye. Yes, most of them do use triggers, but you're still using a joystiq to move the reticle. That's much further from reality than using the wiimote.
The point of my comment was simply that there is no controller that currently mimics the act of shooting a real gun. Sans a full 360 degree screen and head tracking (like that giant VR ball thing that's currently in development) you're not going to get that on a console. What the wii does is not a gimmick. It's their solution to the problems that arise from a traditional television screen/monitor set up. The way metroid prime handled that problem was fantastic (balance between IR and joystiq). The way the conduit did it was less than optimal (more IR, less joystiq). It all boils down to calibration.
There are many things that the wiimote does well that other controllers can't (and things that the wiimote doesn't do well that other controllers don't even try). That's why PS3 and Xbox are now copying nintendo's basic idea. PS3s response looks really good. Xbox's response looks like a proof-of-concept that was really exciting, but an actual product that is lacking in many respects. You want to talk about gimmicky movement, just look at the teaser they had for that Xbox star wars game where you spread your arms to fly through the air. Looks like they didn't realize it would be difficult to control movement in a 3D space without some type of joystick
The comments are a little messed up. None of my replies are being tagged to the person I intended them to. This must be a glitch that they are still working on fixing. That comment was supposed to be a reply for sed1er
They had to evolve it a little bit. Otherwise, it would just be a re-release. What we have to hope for is that most of the magic of the original is there and that the new additions add, rather than detract, from that. The most important thing is that they can replicate the gameplay mechanics: namely the controls. If you've played Metroid Prime on the wii, you know that it can be done well. Is it as great as playing with the N64 controller? We shall see.
Really? You'd buy a game for a character model that you never see (except for cutscenes in single player) and a voice that you will only hear in the single player (which you will likely play much less than the multiplayer)? I'm sorry, but it would seem to me that gameplay would be much more important. That's what the O. G. got right.
If they updated the graphics and put it on a standard analog controller, this would be no different than reskinning any FPS that is currently out there. The classic graphics and the wii-mote (and maybe, just maybe N64 controller peripherals. PLEASE, Nintendo. Make it so!!!!) is what makes this goldeneye. If you want updated graphics on an FPS, just play halo, Killzone or any generic shooter on the market.
The industry has realized is that remakes are going to be successful they need to capitalize on nostalgia by going retro (e. g. Mega Man 9/10). The graphics in that video clearly show that they were trying to mimic the original N64 game. Even the wii doesn't look that terrible.
