Wii Warm Up: Your thoughts on Strong Bad's first episode

Aug 12th 2008 9:55AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
It was funny, fast, fun, and a great throwback to Monkey-Island-style games of yore. I had it done in about 3 hours, and it was entertaining all the way through.

I did get stuck just a few times, but was eventually able to bump my way to the answer to every puzzle (that's the benefit of having a 10-item-inventory, I guess).

I'm looking forward to another big slice of SB's style next month.

16 GB iPhone: Is the speaker louder?

Much, much louder. Yay!

Benchmarking the new MacBook Pros

Jun 8th 2007 9:43AM (TUAW.com)
I have a lot of respect for the hardcore Mac gamers, and it warms my heart to see them press on. As a young switcher, I used to read IMG back when they were imgmagazine.com, and back when Bungie was a Mac developer. I defended the Mac as a gaming platform when dozens of my friends sent me the Gus Sorola "Switch" parody.

But I have to say, these past few years have been enough to convince me to become a console gamer. Unless Apple makes a huge push with Leopard to compete with DirectX, it's truly a lost cause.

TomTom DUO Integrates with iPod

Mar 1st 2007 10:01AM (TUAW.com)
Well, if it's anything like the iPod control on my TomTom Go 510, count me out. The sound quality through the cable is muddy, it rarely works right, and you have to pick your playlist, song, and set it to random every time you get in the car.

It's a huge disappointment, and their customer service left much to be desired, taking over A MONTH to respond to my emails!

Anyone that loves iPods is best to wait until we get a green light from a trusted source like iLounge.

Apple's POD trademark app faces more opposition

Feb 8th 2007 11:05PM (Engadget)
I work for Podfitness, but only have a passing knowledge of Apple's dislike of our use of "Pod". Obviously I'm pretty biased, but I'm pretty certain they don't have any exclusive claim to it. Line 6's Pod was around much earlier as well, so what gives?

What astonishes me is the ferocity with which they pursue the "Pod" thing, saying it's theirs, while simultaneously ignoring the fact that Cisco owns the iPhone trademark!

My two cents, anyway.

Apple TV currently Apple Store Top Seller

Jan 17th 2007 7:45PM (TUAW.com)
Yep, I'll finally be able to reclaim the 17" iMac from inside my Media Center (it was cheaper than a Mac Mini, with more storage). I haven't preordered though, I'll hold out for the satisfaction of buying in-store.

Wing Commander Saga Prologue (+ Prey Demo)

Jan 13th 2007 3:20PM (TUAW.com)
What, no Mark Hamill?

I still have the 1997 DVD release of Wing Commander IV. I'm struggling to get it working on my Mac, I've even tried a Win98 installation under Parallels!

How many iPods is too many?

Dec 28th 2006 12:19PM (TUAW.com)
I thought it was just me! I have 7. I have a 1st gen (running Linux and for posterity), 3rd and 4th gens sit in each car full-time, a 5th gen 60gb in my backpack, a 1st gen Nano, 2nd gen Nano, and another 5th gen 30gb.

Now, I can't justify buying more, but I sure am eyeing the red 8gb Nano...

ABT's iJet Two-Way LCD Remote for iPod reviewed: it really works

Dec 1st 2006 10:38AM (Engadget)
I've had one of these for a couple months, and I have a few issues. It's a great start, and I've been an ABT iJet fan for years, so I'm looking forward to the next iteration.

LIKES:
-It has the ability to display song/artist, or song/next song, a feature even the iPod itself lacks.
-You can pick one up for $99 at Target
-You can select a playlist, artist, or album with the remote

Gripes:
-Teeny tiny display
-It's a bit buggy; for instance, fequently, it will lag behind by 1 song, and you have to cycle through the song display options just to get it to catch up
-It's pretty chunky for a remote
-Since the remote goes into power save after a few seconds, you have to press a button to wake it before you can change songs or pause
-It has a dock connector pass-through, but when using with a car power source, the iPod no longer pauses when the car shuts off (as when the power source is plugged directly into the iPod). This may sound like a minor thing, but combined with the multi-button-press requirement to pause, it adds up to the annoying likelihood that you'll start your car the next morning, and the iPod will have played all night.
-Changning the AAA battery, which happens every 2 weeks, is more complicated and risky to the device than necessary.
-It stopped working yesterday. Nothng works, new batteries, I don't know what's up. Bummer.

New Wii owners: your impressions?

Nov 20th 2006 11:03AM (Joystiq)
Hmm... Bought mine in a dark alley, and they even had 6 games to go with it! Telero Boxer is OK, and Mario Tennis is actually pretty fun.

I know what you're saying about the sports titles, Nester's Funky Bowling and Virtual Golf are great.

I know this is supposed to be the next revolution in gaming or whatever, but couldn't Nintendo have sprung for colors other than red? I haven't heard of this game Red Steel, do you mean Red Alarm? I haven't been able to figure that game out yet.

Also, is anyone else getting a headache from wearing the visor yet? I'm up to 1000mg of Excedrin twice a day since getting this new Nintendo thingy.
