THQ shutters Homefront dev Kaos Studios and THQ Digital Warrington

Jun 13th 2011 12:43PM (Joystiq)
Homefront was awful but hardly a failure for THQ.. It sold much better than expected and helped out THQ big time. So I doubt they are abandoning the IP because of COD.. It's their other none fps games that have been shitting the bed, and Canada is the ticket for game development.. Hiel Canada! Stop Harper!

Make-A-Wish receives $800K from WoW DLC proceeds

May 5th 2011 11:22PM (Joystiq)
Not flaming at all, but really? 50%? It probably cost Blizz next to nothing to implement these things.. Do they really need that extra 800k to cover their back end?

Multiplatform Crysis 2 brings 'a better game to everyone,' Crytek says

Apr 17th 2011 11:21AM (Joystiq)
The man has a point, the built in PC audience can't fully support the budget of a game of Cyrsis' technical prowess.. Making a game solely for PC and only for "high end" PC's is business suicide.. Even most console games are having a trouble turning a profit these days.. I support PC gaming but these elitist PC gamers who seem to think their shit doesn't stink need to let up.. Just because somebody made your uber PC a game several years ago doesn't give you the right to revoke your support because they are focusing on their future as a game studio and not giving into your every whimsical fanboy desire..

Mass Effect 2 available on PSN January 18

ME2 is 19.99 on 360.. In Canada at that.. I have a new slim so I'm playing through 1 & 2 again(originally bought 2 for PC).. DLC sale + 20 bucks for ME1 and 20 for ME2 = $65 CAD.. They can keep the comic lol

Kinect Sports review: A first-round pick

Nov 4th 2010 9:59AM (Joystiq)
Still not an immediate must-buy for me.. But I find it kind of funny that last night at 2 am there were close to 100 replies on a Kinect post.. All bashing Kinect and crowning Move despite it's lackluster launch catalogue who's only shining light is back compatability with games that weren't designed for it's use.. Yet here we have a few games with great reviews during the day.. and there is 7 replies.. Where's all the hate from the PS3 fanboys that overflow the Joystiq comments? :P

Kinect's first purchasers talk about camping out, system's potential

Nov 3rd 2010 10:38PM (Joystiq)
I'm not buying this thing until a killer app gives me no choice , but anyone who thinks MS isnt going to push to top Sony in the FPS department need to get their head checked.. Motion control is very gimmicky.. Even for FPS game the "cool" aspect wears off.. Chaulk up a bit of lag and your online experience will go to hell.. They will eventually follow te wii and be solely for party games.. The only props I give are to kinect for only being one peripheral and because it cab potentially so much more than just motion control.. Hopefully

Microsoft's Craig Davison: Xbox Live price hike is about maintaining 'consistency'

Nov 3rd 2010 12:34AM (Joystiq)
Sooo.. PSN a community of very decent mostly strangers I can chat with when we play the same multiplayer game? Cross game party chat means chatting with my friends in the same game or not in the same game.. If PSN could muster up half the active player base and include free headsets you'd find an equal ratio of quality 7 year old jerks..As an avid gamer who obviously swore by Sony last two gens. . My value in PS3 is solely in exclusives and bluray.. You don't think Sony is feeling a sting from PSN free? Free online should be a system seller.. Yet Xbox Live has a much higher and more frequent user base.. And despite being a year further into it's dev cycle the 360 will outpace the ps3 and wii through the holidays.. And a good chunk of those users will go gold.. So MS gains a greater install base and even more profits off gold.. Sony gets a bunch of poor saps on message boards crying foul that other people have to pay for their online gaming.. I understand your logic of wanting to nickel and dime and hit up the PSN free, but you have to realize that while MS is dropping millions on timed exclusives for online games, the bubble customers on the ps3/360 fence are falling their way and Sony are kicking themselves on the ass for not only being set back revenue on maintain ing PSN, but for being able to drop the coin to buy that shit up..

Microsoft's Craig Davison: Xbox Live price hike is about maintaining 'consistency'

Nov 2nd 2010 10:16PM (Joystiq)
The comments on these articles have really been getting under my skin lately.. I feel like I have to weigh in.. I've sworn by Xbox Live and will continue to swear by Xbox Live.. There is just more competitive gaming, and more multiplayer gamers choose Xbox Live as their stomping ground for gaming online. The only time I have ever played a game on PSN was Uncharted 2 because it is in my opinion the only game on PS3 that has a unique "competitive" multiplayer style without a superior game or community on Xbox Live.. ("Competitive" doesn't include LBP) For every Resistance there is Gears of War, for every Killzone there is a Halo.. The big Xbox Exclusives happen to have giant gaming communities on Xbox Live and are just better Multiplayer games.. Add to that problem the fact that the PSN communities for games like MW/MW2, Red Dead, etc etc.. are eclipsed by the gaming population for the same titles on Xbox Live and you have the only reason why I have paid for premium for Live for the last several years and will continue to do so. If I feel like kicking back and joining up with a couple of my friends(that will be online once in a blue moon), and play on a diminished online user base without party chat i'll hop on PSN(free).. If I feel like turning on my system to see that 15 out of 30 of my friends are on at any given time and usually playing the same games as I am.. I'll just join a party that's most likely already consisting of several of my old grade school friends and shoot the shit until I can join a game. (Regardless of which game I'm playing there should be a pretty big pool of users out there for us to crush no matter how late I decide to stay up on any given night..)

**Before the PS3 fanboys crack the whip, I've always conceded that PS3 does have the better exclusives, but for the sake of this argument (multiplayer).. They just don't stack up..

'Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete' due on Oct. 26, retailers say

Oct 5th 2010 1:32PM (Joystiq)
I can't help but laugh at all the idiots who bought god of war I and II full price, only to have them sell for 29.99 and have HD visuals this gen. I personally wont buy any games until they are re-released next console cycle.. You guys are idiots..

Bing offers Microsoft Points in search rewards program

Sep 23rd 2010 7:58PM (Joystiq)
@incendious

Right now it seems that way, but I plan on using Bing just as my main search engine to get points, as opposed to spamming to get points.. It's a lot easier and I search that much anyway.. I think you'll find as soon as people figure out they search almost enough to get the points as is they will conform to standard use.. I haven't used Bing since around it's launch and I actually find myself really digging it right now.. Just needed persuasion to use it steadily for a bit.. I think this idea will pay off in spades..
