If the PC and Console merged wouldn't it just be a PC with a branding with only one model with set specs? I think the biggest advantage that consoles have over the PC is that the game designers can design their games to use the full potential of the hardware. Since PCs are all different in nature, it is hard to fine tune the PC games to a standard set of specs. Sure minimum requirements can be imposed but even with the similiar level machines there are differences between say the ATI card and NVIDIA card even if they are considered cards of the same tier. In essence I think it comes down to controls and ease of playing. I think that FPS games, MMORPG, and Strategy games seem more geared towards the PC as the games are more easily manipulated by a mouse and keyboard. Maybe I'm just not that adept with the gamepads. But for action adventure games, fighting games, and sports games, the joypad seems more natural.
