Molyneux: 'Minecraft's the best thing I've played in the last ten years'

@SaintV It's also an opinion. Him saying that it's the best thing HE has played in the last 10 years can't really be a lie as long as he believes it. There's nothing politically correct about it.

@Jovrick You realize Maya and Photoshop have predefined rules and guidelines, right? You also know that these are pieces of software and not games, right? So what you're saying is that you don't like Minecraft because it is a game and you'd rather just draw?

@VeeDeeVee That's a trollish and bs statement. Minecraft and Infiniminer are similar, yes. And I'm pretty sure Notch even admitted to being inspired by Infiniminer. But have you ever played either game? Other than mining, they are quite different. Your comment is like saying minecraft is a rip-off of Dig Dug.

@Accessgranted With Minecraft, it's really not a smart move at all to "wait for the final version". Now you're going to have to pay every time there's an 'expansion". If you got it in alpha, you'd get EVERYTHING free that comes in the future. Also, you're going to pay triple as much as you would have if you got the alpha version. So instead of buying the alpha version for 12 dollars and getting all expansions and updates for free, you want to wait for the final version, pay 30 dollars just for the game, and pay for every expansion that comes out? See, not very smart. :P

@Ad134 Unless I'm mistaken, Notch did ALL of the work up until a couple months ago when he officially bought an office and hired some people. So yes, the company is doing a lot of work now and should be praised for it, but Notch already made millions of dollars way before the company was even formed off of what he had already done with Minecraft. It's not that people are forgetting that there is a company. It's more like people aren't forgetting that it was only Notch until recently. :P

Homefront PS3 patch met with poor reviews; stats reset unaddressed

@(Unverified) You didn't ruin my day. I was just unsure if you could actually leave a real comment. I suppose if your idea of fun is trolling a gaming blog in all caps over and over again, then go ahead. I'll just go actually play a game or something instead.

The fact still remains, however, that Homefront is on a whole different level than COD or BC2 when it comes to trainwrecks.

Homefront PS3 patch met with poor reviews; stats reset unaddressed

@(Unverified) Neither COD nor BC2 were this bad. I recently spoke to a friend of mine who doesn't keep up with anything gaming, but he bought Homefront just because he thought it looked cool. Even he thought the game was terrible, and he was untainted by gaming blogs.

Also, please stop trolling. It was slightly amusing the first time, albeit wrong on every account, but now it's just getting sad.

FPM: First-person Mario

@PN04

I think you're getting the completely wrong impression about this. I'm not sure what you think needs a lot of improvement: if it's the actual animation quality or if you think this is supposed to be a real game or what, but this was made by guys who just make youtube videos. They mostly work in special effects and not full animation. They also just did this one in three weeks as a background project behind all of their other projects. Just because Joystiq doesn't give you the whole background behind something doesn't mean you have a full understanding of it...

If you want to see what these guys actually do, it's freddiew on youtube.

Readers pick best webcomic: Frogger

@BigD145

"It's intelligent comedy. Only intelligent people find it funny."

...Really? You find a frog jumping onto the road and causing an accident "intelligent comedy"? I think that tell us a bit more about "your" intelligence rather than that of the joke.

Final Fantasy XIV's XVIII different classes revealed

Jul 24th 2010 1:09PM (Joystiq)
Well, from what I've played in the alpha and beta (Which hasn't been much. They are absolutely horrible at setting times to play and have cancelled almost all of their beta times already), the game is pretty fun. I've tried out the pugilist and lancer and the combat system is pretty interesting and different compared to most MMOs. It's sort of like an ATB system.

I've also tried out the mining class. Their crafting classes all consist of mini games as far as I can see. The mini games, however, are a bit lacking and would get old really fast, so I hope they fix those up sometime...

The graphics are pretty intensive for an MMO, but my 7 year old computer had absolutely no problem running it, and that's using a graphics card I bought for 100 dollars about 3 years ago. So if you're buying an $1,100 laptop and it can't run this game, you are getting ripped off.

Some of you may have laughed at that comment about there being no "jump" button, but it's still true. The exploration aspect is a bit lacking. There are caves all around, but unless you have a quest that takes place in that cave, it will always be completely empty. There's almost a sort of linearity to the game too, which is very bad for MMOs. You aren't able to climb up a 2 foot ledge. You need to go around. You also can't fall off a 2 foot ledge. So if you like the appeal of being able to explore anything you want whenever you want, this will sadly not be for you.

The quests seem a bit lacking as well. You receive guildleves from an unmarked npc that you have to look for and then go to the area where that guildleve takes place. And every single guildleve was "go kill 3 rats" or something similar. And like I said, everything is laid out for you. When you get a guildleve, it marks the area and the specific monster that you are allowed to fight, and nothing else. I'm sure there will also be storyline quests when the full game is released, and the cutscenes are pretty amazing for an MMO as well, but my big issue is the major linearity to it all.

Overall, it's a very interesting take on the MMO genre and worth a try just to see if you like it. But don't go into it expecting to play it like every other MMO, because you'll be very disappointed.
