Swag Saturday: Toy Soldiers! (XBLA)
Mar 6th 2010 7:17PM (Joystiq)Los Angeles Quantum of Solace launch event fizzles
Nov 4th 2008 2:58PM (Joystiq)I feel kinda bad for the people that set that whole thing up.
Poll: Are you having technical issues with GTA IV?
May 1st 2008 12:08AM (Joystiq)- 44 out of every 100 poll voters (6% fail + 38% no-fails) bought it on X360
- 28 out of every 100 poll voters ((7% + 3%) fail + (13% + 5%) no-fails) bought it on PS3
So, out of the 72 out of every 100 people that voted saying they bought some version of GTA IV, 61% bought an X360 version and 39% bought a PS3 version.
This sort of checks out with the line at my local Gamestop at midnight. When they split up the buyers into two lines, it appeared to the naked eye that there were about 2 X260 purchasers for every 1 PS3 purchaser.
Also, this backs up for the most part the other Joystiq poll, http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/poll-results-achievements-dlc-main-reason-to-pick-gta-iv-for-x/, if not a bit *more* leaning towards the X360.
For obvious reasons, ever since GTA III, I have associated the GTA series as a PlayStation series. Meaning when I think of GTA I automatially think of Sony even though they released some Xbox/PC ports. So 61% of joystiqers buying it on X360 is very telling of the marketshare MS has gained this generation in the US.
DMC4 also sold tons on the X360. I wonder how many sales Konami is giving up by staying soley PS3-based for MGS4.
Play N Trade holding national Guitar Hero III competition March 15
Mar 12th 2008 9:43AM (Joystiq)There's a Play N Trade by my house that opened up last Novemeber-ish. It's OK. Seems like a family-run Gamestop. If you can imagine that...
They have a few 8/16-bit items, and you can try pretty much any game before buying. Reminds me a lot of Funcoland before it got eaten up by Babbages/Gamestop.
Same guy (owner) is *always* there. I think every time I've gone in he's chatting away with the customers. He's a friendly, helpful guy. But, unfortunately, he always seems to bring up that they're 'the little guy' and the hardships of being so: How he can't match a price or can't take defective consoles back because they have to go to the manufacturer. How they're not Best Buy or Gamestop. And my favorite, how they had to eat a lot of loss on limited edition Halo 3's, etc.
They're selling prices are comparable to gamestop for new and used. Although, I did find it rather peculiar that almost every new game is like 20 cents off MSRP. I never trade stuff in so I don't know how they're trade-ins prices compare to others. Nice looking store though.
Too bad the contest is not Rock Band. That would be 10x more fun. Then again, the 'company truck' that's always parked outside has a huge GH3 graphics all over it. They look permenent too. Maybe Activision invested? ;)

But you know what would be a kickass song? Silverchair's "Tomorrow". I hadn't heard that song in years until recently... and the first thing that popped into my head is "This song is PERFECT for Rock Band!"
