New Gametech Bear peripheral sticks your DualShock 3 to a PSP Go
Oct 5th 2010 6:11AM (Joystiq)Not really, I'd actually love this to take on work trips.
Two reasons I think this is awesome:
1) PspGo is a little too small for my man hands. Ds3 fits better.
2) GT Psp. This would be awesome to have 'proper' analogue stick control for steering.
Activision and Eutechnyx making NASCAR The Game 2011
Sep 30th 2010 11:48AM (Joystiq)Except using Activision's (aka Bobby Kotick's) vision for the future (aka pillaging gamers), you'll only get 20 cars and 6 tracks on the disc.
But don't worry, Trackapathy will be along shortly to sell you the missing tracks as DLC. Only $10 for 3 tracks! Want the missing cars too? No problem, $10 for 6! Bargain.
Oh, you want to race online? Sure, just sign up for this subscription and you're good to go.
No thanks Activision. I'll settle for the taste GT5 gives me.
Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling to be noob tubed for charity
Sep 21st 2010 10:49AM (Joystiq)You're raising money for charity, great, I've no issue with that. I do however think it's an unfortunate reflection of our society that gaming for 24hrs is required to inspire some people to donate.
I'm sure you mean well, I think it just would have been more transparent if you were raising money without also pimping your own product. You can't deny how much free press IW and MW2 will get from this and that's all just a little convenient for my liking. Sure you have other games listed on your blog, but let's face it, all the media coverage is about MW2 and you getting noob tubed. It's just a personal preference but I prefer more conspicuous acts of charity.
Good luck with the drive, I'm sure you'll exceed your goal.
Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling to be noob tubed for charity
Sep 21st 2010 10:29AM (Joystiq)Please, running/walking for 24hrs is not the same thing as play video games.
Firstly, running/walking promotes a healthy activity and is actually a challenge. Sitting around playing games neither a) healthy or b) challenging. Don't get me wrong, I love to game, but I'm sure as shit not going to claim it's worth people donating money over. Seriously, I've gamed at LAN parties for well over 24hrs when I was younger and that certainly wasn't healthy.
Perhaps if there was an actual challenge (like driving 1200+ laps of a virtual race track within the allotted time, and you donate 1c per lap completed), but as it stands it's just lame.
Maybe I'll start a charity drive where my mates and I sit around for 24hrs and drink beer. I mean sure, we were probably going to do that anyway, but really, doesn't it just inspire you to donate? Incidentally, I'm an employee at the brewery making beers we're drinking. Hey, here's a link to my innocent looking blog with said articles about said beer all over it.

Sep 20th 2010 10:34PM (Joystiq)I'll keep my monthly donations going direct to the charities I support, without promoting something as ridiculous as this. Thank you.
And don't get the sceptic in me starting with the not-so-subtle product promotion going on here. What a coincident the "Creative Strategist @infinityward" decided to play MW2. *rolls eyes*
Gran Turismo 5's weather effects and X1 Prototype in video
Sep 18th 2010 1:47AM (Joystiq)For reals?
GT5 has the best day time lighting I've ever seen in a racing game - in any game for that matter. There are times when I honestly CAN'T tell the difference between real life and GT5 videos/shots. You might be sleeping for a long time if this still doesn't impress you.
Gran Turismo 5's weather effects and X1 Prototype in video
Sep 17th 2010 8:25PM (Joystiq)Your comment is so full of fail. A serious GT fan you are most definitely NOT, or you would:
a) Be incredibly excited for the next instalment in the franchise
b) Realise that it was 5 yrs WELL spent.
c) Realise that 5 yrs isn't _that_ long for game dev these days
d) Have entertained yourself with the dozens of other racing titles in the meantime
c) Know that most of the trailers (particularly of late) have been in game footage, not CG
d) Understand that the game is _less_ than 6 weeks away
e) Not mention Ridge Racer or Burnout in the same breath as... see, I can't do it!
Good luck with the beer, you'll need it come Nov 2 to drown your sorrows as you realise how narrow minded and self centred you are.
Gran Turismo 5's weather effects and X1 Prototype in video
Sep 17th 2010 8:13PM (Joystiq)You need to check out these videos: http://www.gtplanet.net/first-gran-turismo-5-gameplay-videos-in-the-rain/
You'll see that it's not just a simple animation, but actually corresponds to the density and direction of the wind, rain, and car vector. It is, without question, the best rain effect I've ever seen in a game (of any description).
R.U.S.E. review: Real time, realer boredom
Sep 8th 2010 6:21AM (Joystiq)As everyone has pointed out, the multiplayer wasn't reviewed, or even mentioned until the closing paragraph.
"World War II just isn't the biggest thrill anymore, Nazis are overused and the overall package surrounding the gameplay – graphics, story, multiplayer options – is weak at best."
Multiplayer OPTIONS? Really? So you looked at the options, weren't impressed, and just decided not to bother?
I also note that [ED] has commented on the PS3 version, or at least the fact you didn't get a PS3 review copy. Despite that, did it not occur to you to even _mention_ the fact that this is the first RTS in console history to have support for a controller that *may* completely change the way we think about RTS on consoles? Sure, it's 'hinted' at, with the [ED] comments where they are, but how hard would it have been to actually say "The PS3 version of RUSE supports the PS Move, which may prove to be a faster and more accurate controller than the gamepad, but we didn't get the opportunity to try this out for this review"?
That's like missing the fact GT5 or Forza can be played with a wheel.
Having PS Move support in an RTS is a *big deal*, I really hope Joystiq consider amending this review when/if they get the opportunity to test it out
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 preview: Force Majeure
Sep 5th 2010 4:02AM (Joystiq)Yeah, that doesn't really make much sense. Your news and impressions would be valid across all platforms.
