Riccitiello: Digital downloads won't kill physical media just yet

Jan 13th 2011 12:57PM (Joystiq)
Guh. As long as ISPs keep lowering the bandwidth caps, I cant see digital distribution really taking off. My ISP just lowered their standard High Speed plan's bandwidth cap to 60Gb/mo, with overages costing $2/Gb. Seeya later, Netflix, Cloud computing, OnLive and Digital Distribution. I ain't paying an extra $8-$16 surcharge to download/watch/play something I've already payed for when I can just as easily head over to Best Buy...

OnLive releases iPad app, reveals subscription-based movie streaming coming in 2011

All of this online stuff kills me. I think it's a fantastic idea to have all of my data in the Cloud, have an OS that runs on a dumb terminal and does all of the heavy lifting over a network, to be able to stream my music to any device using the internet, to play online multiplayer games, to have all of my gaming processed somewhere else and shot to my TV/computer/console over the internets, to be able to watch streaming HD movies on demand, etc. etc. All amazing advances in technology!
But, uh, with ISPs constantly REDUCING the amount of bandwidth included in their internet plans, how are any of these things possibly going to succeed? Am I supposed to pay my ISP $30/mo + $60/year for the privilege of online gaming + $8/mo for Netflix + the charges for bandwidth overages?
Dunno, seems absurd to me. People who take advantage of this kind of stuff would be paying more per month in bandwidth overages than on their actual internet bill...

Best Buy bundling PS3 with Bravia 3DTVs, and slashing prices

@imjason
You can get a 160Gb PS3 bundle at BB that includes ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet and "Cars" on Blu-Ray (arguably a better bundle than GT5 and "Grown Ups") for $299. The KDL-55HX800 can be found at a ton of retailers for around $1900. That's a pretty far cry from the $3975 they claim.
"This Is It" and "Bolt 3D" are kinda "meh", but you're right, the 3D starter kit does make it a pretty good deal...

Good lord, people! Do a search on Pricegrabber for the TV model numbers listed in the ad before you go spewing all over the place about how great a deal this is!

haha Thanks for the TV lesson, @Dustin F... TVs can be of differing qualityWHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU??? :P
That specific model of TV is available for $1900. Do a quick search on Pricegrabber for any of the models listed. Not one of them is selling for anything even remotely like the "listed price" in the Sorny ad.
It's a warm deal at best; you're certainly not saving over $1000...

Uh, erm, not to be a killjoy, but the 55" can be had for around $1900-2000; toss in a PS3 that's worth, what, $300? You're saving more like $100, not $1300...
