I agree in this case (it's not a good idea in other genres, I don't think). I can remember the days when I needed to keep my highscore, I had to get out my instamatic camera and take a snapshot of the TV. :) It got me quite a few patches from Activision, back in the dusty past. :)
I don't understand why they can't simply SUBTITLE it. I can read english. There's no need to make the stinking thing with cheap voice-actors for the US. Just give us subtitles. That way the people that DO want it will be able to buy it and not be screwed over with another copy of "Redneck Games."
"This follows the decision by a third party provider to decline the offer of an extended contract to continue online play on these platforms."
It means whoever they had contracted out to do the service for online play decided not to let Codemasters renew. Why? Dunno. But that is the only reason why the 360's version is still up... Codemasters apparently didn't decide to go the EA route and use its own servers (relying on Live's infrastructure.) I'm not sure what company Codemasters used, but I hope they don't do it in the future.
I don't think it has anything to do with revenue or number of people playing. I think it was poor selection of a 3rd party hosting company. :)
That being said... Losing an online feature is never fun... and since the game is not that old (even in console years), people are bound to be pissed. Dildos they aren't. All of XBox Live for the original XBox went dark... It was the Halo 2 players that felt it... this is a current gen title with a currently functioning online component for 1/3 of its versions. Comparing it to Halo 2's online community is like comparing apples to bananas.
No, but I trust some sites more than others. It's really a "until I have to change my CC# because you can't keep it safe"... sort of trust.
I don't trust Sony. Not anymore. (I guess "trust" is a silly term... I allowed them to have some info I wouldn't otherwise give them.) Now it's prepaid cards only.
CDUniverse.com lost my info over 13 years ago and haven't used them since. Sorry.
That's probably the real crux of it there. The backlog is going to prevent Atari's release from getting the "spotlight" for a time, and that's more of a concern than the overall PSN restoration of the store.
Most of the time the "insurance" is if they screw up. And good luck trying to pin it on them... It reads to me just like that asinine LifeLock that people keep hawking on TV. Their "guarantee" has to be a direct, verifiable result of them missing the boat and letting your ID get compromised.
In other words... you can do 100x better by keeping vigilant on where you give out your personal info, getting your credit reports yearly, and not listening to phishing or other scams... It's a shame that most people can't do these simple things... which is why people like LifeLock and Debix can offer a service...
21st century Snake Oil. Like the "gas saver" cigarette lighter attachment, making money at home on EBay, and secrets of the cash flow business (I stay up late some nights... heh.)
I enjoyed Knights of the Nine.... it was a standard affair, but you got some neat stuff at the end... plus you got to handle some of the religious underpinnings of the Elder Scrolls world... which I found pretty neat.
Man, you think all the farmville requests are info-clutter. Wait until you get some requests to "help the Baron Von (insert friend's name here) build a nuclear weapon!"
I was wondering the same thing, because the box itself is green as well... perhaps from the aforementioned (in another reply) lime green Japanese DS. :)
I thought that initially as well, but then I realized that Japan's got a crap-ton of colors on just about every console made... things we wouldn't normally see unless we went to Japan. (It wouldn't be too hard to find out the color schemes, though through a search.) That said.... I think that DS color is a creepy sort of "strained pea baby shit" green. Of course if baby shit's shiny, mom needs to take baby to the doctor. :)
I remember the Orange Gamecubes and thought "someone's feeding Mario too many strained carrots."
