@Sylath "Consoles". There's your problem.

@meurice Sorry, that should say hardly the greatest of its problems, of course.

@mywhitenoise Let's read your original post again. "Every awful video game film so far is because they don't follow the history of it's franchise."

'Every awful video game film so far' is a statement which you and I both agree would encompass Uwe Boll's 'Bloodrayne'. The second half of your post indicates that this film, along with many others, would have been improved by '[following] the history of it's [sic] franchise'. I then pointed out that not every awful video game film so far -- e.g. Bloodrayne -- would have been improved by adhering to the source material's powerhouse vision. Claiming that Uwe Boll is a horrible director does nothing but bolster my point, which is that not following the source material closely was hardly the least of that film's problems.

Are we clear now?

@mywhitenoise To the contrary, it was a great example because it pointed out the flaw in your original assertion.

@mywhitenoise Err, no, not at all. I'm saying that both the film and the game were trash and that the former wouldn't have been improved by following the game's storyline beat by beat. lrn2extrapolate

Really, just so we're clear, this is the same David O. Russell who made one of the best comedies of the '90s ('Flirting with Disaster') and proved that he could handle action capably with 'Three Kings'. I think this film is in perfectly capable hands.

@mywhitenoise So Uwe Boll's 'Bloodrayne' would have been improved by slavishly following the game's established storyline? Gotcha.

What's the big deal if the film ends up having little to do with its source material? Russell is an intelligent filmmaker with a number of interesting movies under his belt, and nothing he'll end up doing will detract from the two existing games. I'd rather get a good video game adaptation that has little to do with its source material than an awful one that follows it to a T (see: just about every other video game-to-film adaptation made so far).

@Faenix It's the full compilation and contains both expansions and the original game.
