The Ending We Needed: Phil and Amy, Hugging
Apr 12th 2010 9:07AM (Fanhouse - Jay Mariotti)Sony against the world
Dec 20th 2006 10:31AM (Joystiq)To date:
Playstation 1 - 102,000,000 sold
Playstation 2 - 111,000,000 sold
PSP - (Released March 2005 in the US) 22,000,000 sold
Xbox 1 - 24 million units (released November 2001 in the US)
Xbox 360 - (Released December 05 in the US)6,000,000 Shipped
Neither the xbox 1 or the Xbox 360 are competing with Sony's PS2, PS3 or it's portable console (the psp)
This is clearly a Sony PS3Peat!
Analysts discuss 2006, console futures
Dec 20th 2006 10:15AM (Joystiq)"I'm pretty disappointed in the Xbox 360. I think Microsoft is doing everything right: Games are good; Xbox Live is amazing; and the console is not prohibitively expensive. Yet people are just not buying"
Overall; each analyst said that the PS2 was the biggest seller. A last gen system continues to outsell the Xbox 360.
Sony has positioned itself admirably. They have a 129.00 affordable PS2 which shows no signs of slowing down at least until 2008. And they have the PS3 which has already crushed the xbox 360 sales in Japan (where microsoft had a one year head start) and the ps2 and PSP that continue to outsell the xbox 360.

Dec 19th 2006 10:24PM (Joystiq)Sony PS One - 102,000,000
Xbox 1 - 24 million
Sony PS2 - 111,000,000
Sony PSP - 22,000,000
Xbox 360 - 6 million (only 3 million in the US)
The Xbox 360 has been out in japan for one year and the PS3 has already outsold it in only a month!
The PSP has outsold the Xbox 1 in one year. The Xbox 1's entire lifespan in this industry has already been crushed by Sony's portable.
Clearly more people chose the PSP (18 million more)over the Xbox 360 in it's first year and first time in the market with a portable.
The PS3 already outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan and selling out everywhere here in the US is a clear indication that Microsoft has failed, is failing and will not achieve any dominance in this market.
Retailers continue to steadily sell out of the PS3 in the US and Japan.
The 360 is miserably failing against the PS3 and the Wii.

TIME magazine deems PS3 a bust
Dec 19th 2006 11:45AM (Joystiq)"You know you're in trouble when you get beat by something called the wii"
That's more of a dis to the Wii than it is the PS3.
On another note, the 360 must be in DOUBLE TROUBLE as the wii has outsold it here in the US and Japan!!!! Triple trouble with the PS3 outselling it in Japan in only a month! A one year headstart in Japan wasn't enough of a head start for the Wii or PS3!
Market research could have improved PS3's image
Dec 19th 2006 11:32AM (Joystiq)That Old Chinese dude(Kutaragi)being brash and having a crew @ E3 that blew the presentation of an incredible system - The Sony PS3. I market and develop powerpoint presentations for a Real Estate coroporation; when the personnel is not in sync with the corporation, the product and the audience, the presentation is blown. The only thing that saves it is hiring someone specifically for Public Relations who's so talented that they can sell a block of ice from the other side of the world to an eskimo in an igloo.
Reggie is good for Nintendo PR. He's the Ceo that mingles and mixes with the people, the hands on guy. He'll do lunch with a competitor, be at the corporate meeting on time and execute the plan (nintendo's unique new vision) then run off to times square to lounge and Chill-Ax (Chill/relax) with some katt from MTV and then play the Wii with a gamer at nintendo world or toys r us. Nintendo hit a homerun in picking the right candidate for this position.
That katt with the beard and british accent reppin the 360 is a good look for MS. He'll entertain those invited to the boardroom or press conferences but that's as far as they go. Hands off with the public can sometimes work in your favor when you make the boardroom/press releases available to the public and force them; I mean give them a CHOICE to download and feel like they are involved in some way. It's talking to the people without physically being in front of them. They have also bribed; ummm....wisely used the Media (print and digital) to misinform ummm......reach the masses.
All Sony has to do is shuffle their personell and hire talented individuals with mass appeal who can deliver the message without being brash and have the ability to use their wit and battle the competitors fiercely into submission.
TIME magazine deems PS3 a bust
Dec 19th 2006 10:53AM (Joystiq)I didn't know that Time Magazine was an authority that so called Hard Core Gamers respect and live by their words!
So Time Magazine is a respected publication amongst gamers? How many of you have subscriptions or will subscribe since this article was published?
Boo-Yah!!!
Thought So!
TIME magazine deems PS3 a bust
Dec 19th 2006 10:08AM (Joystiq)OMG; Resistance fall of man is a Next Gen Video game Rollercoaster that is out of this world; the gameplay will twist your head off and hit you in the gut like a runaway twinkie!!!
It's hotter than hot; bolder than bold; The 360 is last gen and older than old!
The PS3 is the culmination of the past (102,00,000 sold), the present (111,000,000 sold) and the future of gaming(Sold out everywhere and still counting)!
Sony is the Juggernaut of Next Gen gaming! Pound for pound the greatest; 360 fanboys; lay your gloves on the floor; It's over!
The numbers don't lie!!!! The ammount of units sold are astounding.
The 360 numbers are mediocre; hardly a force to be reckoned with. They are barely niche market numbers.
Xbox 360 6,000,000 units shipped
Playstation 102,000,000 units sold
Playstation 2 - 111,000,000 units sold
Playstation Portable 22.94 million Units sold
Playstation 3 - 400,000 @ launch and Sold out at all major retailers. Sold out in Japan where the 360 has only been out a year and only SHIPPED; not sold out of inventory in Japan!
Hold on to your seats for the Sony PS3Peat!
TIME magazine deems PS3 a bust
Dec 19th 2006 2:25AM (Joystiq)Go to each consoles wikipedia:
Xbox 360 6,000,000 units shipped
Playstation 102,000,000 units shipped
Playstation 2 - 111,000,000 units shipped
Playstation Portable 22.94 million Units shipped
Playstation 3 - 400,000 @ launch (Sold out at all major retailers) Shipped and sold out in US and Japan where the 360 has only been out a year and only SHIPPED; not sold out of inventory in Japan!
Go ahead and distort the facts; everywhere you turn; the Playstation brand has outsold it's competitors in every way, shape, form.
I'm sorry you can't even inflate the xbox 360's numbers, even by lying and doubling the units shipped, it simply is still laughable; they don't sell enough units to even warrant a second look at their stats.
Poor 360 fanboys can't get a grip that even with all the misinformation and bad press incited by Sonys competitors and sexually frustrated 360 fanboys; the PS3 continues to sell out their shipments at 499 and 599.00!
The 360 has already LOST the war in Japan. A year head start was crushed by the PS3 in only one month! tsk tsk
