I Am Alive on PSN April 3 in US, April 4 in Europe

Mar 21st 2012 1:47PM (Joystiq)
Fantastic game. I really enjoyed exploring and soaking in the atmosphere, so it took me 10+ hours for my first playthrough.

It has some of the best settings I've seen in a post-apocalyptic game. It's also very maturely written and avoids the usual campy video game characters/dialogue.

I got frustrated with the combat in a few situations but I'm still dying to play IAA again. Haven't stopped thinking about it since I beat it :)

New ArcheAge clip shows underwater environments

@(Unverified) I had the same thought. Plenty of games let you swim underwater and attack mobs but this actually seems like going on a professional undersea expedition.

LotRO's update 5.2 showers players with lock boxes

Feb 13th 2012 2:15PM (Massively)
@Seffrid I'm happy to spend cash in F2P games but I can't stand these types of sales ploys. They're tacky as hell.

I haven't played LOTRO since it went F2P, but in Star Trek Online you're constantly looting these lock boxes from enemies, and anytime someone unlocks one with a special ship the game broadcasts a server-wide message.

It feels like I'm in a sci-fi themed casino or bingo hall.

Max Schaefer talks Torchlight II development, potential MMO plans

Jan 24th 2012 7:01PM (Massively)
"As Schaefer puts it, the team wants to put together a good game that stands on its own, and if it's successful the developers will look in the direction of an expansion rather than a straightforward shop."

Haha he'll never go far with that mindset in today's online gaming industry!

What a crazy idea though -- making profits through meaningful content instead of item shops.

The Soapbox: Credible currency

Jan 24th 2012 4:26PM (Massively)
I have a hard time believing there were significant numbers of people clamoring for statted low-level gear in LOTRO's item shop. How is that even possible?

I haven't played the game in a long time but don't ever recall there being any major challenge in the leveling content. Not only that, but between crafting and quest rewards there was no shortage of gear whatsoever. There's no world pvp (or real pvp system for that matter) in the game so what spurred this supposed demand for cash shop gear?

RIFT revenues reached $100 million in 2011, Trion secures new funding

Jan 19th 2012 2:02PM (Massively)
The game was in fantastic shape at launch and I've been interested in checking it out again. I only left because I was burnt out on fantasy MMOs.

I'm pretty indifferent about End of Nations but I can't wait to see what Trion does with Defiance. I have a lot of faith in them after seeing how well Rift turned out.

That palette is fully operational: Jeff Dobson opens up about SWTOR's artistic side

@Joaquin Crowe

I really like the atmosphere of the different worlds but yeah, it all seems so static. I have no issues with playing a theme park-style MMO, but SWTOR doesn't do a very good job selling the illusion.

Some Assembly Required: SWG housing extravaganza

Dec 9th 2011 1:12PM (Massively)
I never played SWG during its prime but when I visited the game a couple years ago it was so much fun exploring the homes and seeing just how creative people could get with furniture/decorations.

I know there are some eyesore issues with games that let you build a home anywhere, but I appreciate that kind of freedom.
