How tomorrow's Supreme Court violent game case could affect consumers

Nov 1st 2010 10:51PM (Joystiq)
If this goes through...there will be a major change in purchasing games in general. So, there would be a "M rated" section for VGs now? Need an ID or DL of 18+ to get inside and view the titles? Or how about just have a separate "M rated" store and have all the other major retailers carry E-T games? (hmm this all sounds strangely familiar...)

Which still wouldn't do anything because the 18+ can still come in and purchase the game for whoever they want. We cannot stop the general public from purchasing items, being inappropriate or not.
Don't we have enough stores that contain "mature" items or sections? Now games have to be added in? I mean, isn't that what the ESRB rating is for anyway? To tell the consumer what content is inside this game?

The real subject is that the "older" crowd (I use that term loosely) is just not informed and or know about games. Most do not know what the ESRB is or understand it. If their child wants a M rated game, they think "it's a silly game that Little Billy wants for a present", they will purchase it. (Granted the public is getting better in the sense of ESRB ratings and content now....somewhat...)

Then, if it's bad or not to their liking, they are to blame. Do some research before purchasing! We have the internet for a reason...to get info! Don't just go out and buy something without some sort of idea you are getting. And then if you buy it, its on your hands, not the companies of the games, or the stores. You made a wrong or uneducated decision on something to buy..that's your problem, no one elses.

Anyway, this is a silly case and should be canned because we have more important things to worry about then Little Billy playing a violent game that they purchased.

Home Shopping Network pitches the Kinect

Oct 25th 2010 11:48PM (Joystiq)
Wow, just wow...I can't believe I sat through that whole clip..
Truthfully, I have never really liked Kinect. It just never spoke to me. I like all the main systems and enjoy them all. Kinect however, makes me shake my head in disappointment.
I work at TRUS, and I am the leader in the electronics section. We recently put up a display that has clips of the different games and what the Kinect does. I go up to people watching the vids, asking unbiasedly, what they think, do they like it etc. 9/10 people, mainly adults (doing early Xmas shopping) say that they don't like it either. They say that they can hardly understand/use the Wii and the "waving their arms and wands" *shudder* ( yes they say wands) to play the games with their kids. And the family doesn't like to do that for extended periods of time, minus Wii-Fit. With Kinect, they think that jumping around to do things/playing games without wands *shudders again* would be fun...for about 10 mins, then they would get tired and want to sit down..
However, the only real good thing they like is the voice activation, limited movement for menus, and the Netflix capability. They think that THAT is impressive.
Also, for the 10% that do have interest, they say that they only like it because of the dance game...that's it.
If MS released this at any other time than the holidays, it would fail. Massively. But, since it is the holidays it will not fail because of the holiday spirit, desire, plus Oprah and HSN influence of want/need.
I agree with many people and that it will not last.. Unless they put some major improvement on the Kinect system, the games, and just overall. If not , then after the holidays.......

Kinect will become the "Tony Stark" video player.
We shall see.

Devil May Cry reboot, in trailer and screenshot form

Sep 22nd 2010 10:16PM (Joystiq)
How does the "new" Dante even compare to the previous?
I mean look..
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/devilmaycry/images/6/63/Dante_4.png

What they did need to reboot the SERIES.. not the character.
Old Dante is just fine..the new one (as many have commented) looks very emo, goth, twilight fanboy-ish. Not a fan.

Bring back the "real" Dante!

I have an original GBA, GBA SP, and a DS Lite right now. I used to have almost all of them, except the Micro. Hated that thing.

The games I play:
Super Mario Bros. DX (love this game!)
Super Mario Land 1,2 and 3, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, Links Awakening DX, Donkey Kong, Kirby's Dream Land and Pokemon Red/Gold.

Games I still have but dont play very often:
Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon: TCG,
CatTrap (insanely difficult puzzle game)

I have used the voice with and without the headset and it works just fine. I can comprehend everything the other person says and vice-versa.

Maybe something is wrong with your Wi-fi connection, because its flawless for me.

Nintendo DS headset pre-order sale at Amazon

@2

Those were the days. I remember doing that to my friend (thought I was so clever) granted it was a one shot deal, since we played all the time.

But, I wouldnt see why not. You should/can name your Pokemon right? so my Dialga is now Garchomp. Should be good for a laugh or two.

Magikarp/Gyrados have always been named Sushi for me. I like stupid/silly names for Pokemon.

Over 14-years-old? Microsoft exec. says trade in your Wii

Ahh, the AGE old debate of "kiddie vs mature"

Today mature is seen as something that is "adult, violent, and graphic" But really, that is just a selling point to get tweens to buy the game. Seeing a game that has M people will buy because it's cool to do "mature" things.

What ever happened to the true meaning of mature: A person that is fully developed in body or mind.
A real mature game would be, oh lets say...Phoenix Wright. It involves complex thinking, logic, and problem solving. A real "kiddie" game is GTA. Shooting, killing, violence, sex, and crimes. No growth to become a man/woman, just leading another child to think that raping people and stealing cars is ok.

So if anything at all, the Wii is the most mature system out there. It is made to appeal to people of all ages (8-80), where as 360 and PS3 are for the younger and M loving crowd.

The Wii has only been out for 4 months and people are already selling/giving up on the Wii. Why is everyone so impatient nowadays? So, it doesnt have an AAA Wii title yet. Big deal, they are working on it. Those things take time to make. A previous poster said something like, If the Wii is selling so well anyway, why bring out the big-guns now? So true, and that is what Nintendo is doing.

GameStop pulls out creative stops to move PS3s

Jan 7th 2007 3:44AM (Joystiq)
Tis true.

The EB I manage has 8 PS3's(60 gig, that's all we get now) collecting dust in the back room right now, since Wed. We tell people that we have them...but they just want the Wii. They just don't care anymore. It's mainly too expensive or they just dont want it because they dont have a HD TV and see no point till they do.

Believe it, or not, its your choice. But stores have PS3's and no Wii's.
