PS3 overtakes total Xbox 360 sales in Japan ... already

Dec 12th 2006 3:38PM (Joystiq)
To understand why xbox 360 probably not gonna to do well in japan you need to start from the culture. First, Japanese just simplily won’t buy anything not from japan if the product is significantly better than what they already have or simplily they don’t have it. Also, they are not fans of FPS nor sport games. They just don’t need 2k6, 2k7, college hoop, and stuff. To most of them, they have no idea who those players in the game anyway. Gears of War, rainbow six vegas, call of duty are all very very good games to me and I really enjoy them, and I think they are the strength of xbox 360. If you don’t have many people that play FPS in japan, I guess you will get bored pretty quickly playing it yourself. I know there is xbox live, but I guess you do want your friends come over to your house and play halo killing each other sometimes, but that just won’t happen in Japan. Sadly, most of the games for xbox360 are sport games and fps games. Second, people in Japan and in the US have something in common, which they all like pretty games. However, the definition of pretty is somewhat different. Here, people like realistic graphic, gun shot, real blood animation, real, real, real, real life color. For Japanese, they like colorful scheme, cartoonish characters, gay looking skinny guy, yes, I am serious. If you have seen FF7 the movie, and you will understand what I am talking about. No offend, but some of the main characters in FF series are pretty gay looking to me. Also, For some reason American games like to use the color purple, pink, and green like Kameo and viva Pinata. The first time when I see these games, I know that for sure they are not gonna work in Japan. No matter how good a game is, with colors and characters like that Japanese just won’t buy it. They like cute, cartoon characters!! Big ass eyes, and boobs! It’s not that hard to figure out what Japanese like if you want to have a market in Japan. Don’t just put the products there and do the American way. It just won’t work. If people in Microsoft can’t figure that out, hire someone in Japan, which I think Microsoft made the right move to have Blue Dragon. Is that enough? What’s after Blue Dragon?? Hmm…... Blue Dragon 2? Even if a person really likes FPS, do you think he or she would buy PS3 just to play resistance while you can play Gear of War, Halo 3 on xbox 360? Unless you are a super hardcore FPS fan, and you need to play every single FPS game on earth, this is probably not a good idea for most of us. This is just the same thing with Blue Dragon. I am sure it’s a good rpg, but is it good enough to make people to buy xbox when there are two ff13 titles on ps3 coming up? Wait a minute, people would say, xbox has oblivion and mass effect coming up. Let’s forget that PS3 also has oblivion, and they both don’t have gay looking main characters. It’s just not their cup of wine. They like turn base rpg, the old freaking way which haven’t been changed since 1980s. Let’s all forget that and ask yourself if you prefer watching a Japanese movie with English sub title or an American movie?? There you go; I think you get my point.

I guess if it take 2 detail pictures to tell the differences bwt ps3 and xbox360, why would someone pay extra 200 bucks to play the same games? Hmm.... I don't! Damn, don't get me wrong, i am a ps3 fanboy! Damn! Hopefully, there is gonna be kill apps for ps3!

Sony claims Xbox 360 requires HD DVD, etc., thus costs $700

Just show these charts to your girlfriends, and they will think PS3 is a better deal!
