Shigeru Miyamoto 'retiring from current position' at Nintendo, working on smaller games [update: Nintendo denies]

Dec 7th 2011 10:24PM (Joystiq)
If you guys read the article on Kotaku, they make it sound as if he is leaving Nintendo, this makes it sound like he is staying at the company. Either way, I still think my original point is valid. Nintendo is in a rut, and needs something new.

1. The reason Nintendo still even exists today, and possibly the most important and beloved man in the history of video games is abandoning the ship he's been sailing for over 30 years. Think about this people, it probably tells you a lot about the current state of Nintendo. (hint: it stinks)

2. This is a good thing...for Miyamoto. He can go on to make something fresh and new, which is really what the industry needs right now. As much as I love Mario and Zelda...we don't really need Mario 241 and Zelda 53.

@dblue

Uh ok. Thank you for the rant that had nothing to do with what I said. I'm not saying anything about the movie. Just that this game isn't even trying to hide the fact that it's ripping off Inglorious Basterds.

Much love to Kulas and the rest of old school Volition. I don't really agree with the direction they went after the THQ merge, but Descent and Freespace are two of my favorite games ever. These guys were what small studio developers were all about in the 90s. Love your work and have fun while doing it. Can't say that for many studios today, sadly :-/
