Wall Street Journal's Mossberg picks Wii over PS3 [update 1]

Nov 29th 2006 4:50PM (Joystiq)
I think the fact that the Nintendo can offer something that appeals to both gamers and non-gamers at a low price is why the wii will do well.

No non-gamer is ever going to buy a PS3 or an Xbox 360 for themselves. And a lot of gamers (including me) aren't willing to plunk down $500 for a new system just because the graphics look nicer than last-gen.

But plenty of non-gamers with spare cash would be willing to give the wii a try, and a lot of gamers who buy more than one console are most likely going to get the wii as their second console.

This "battle of the consoles" ultimately happens in the marketplace. The wii is cheaper to buy, and cheaper to develop for. That counts for a lot.

Greathouse,

That makes sense, now. Thanks. And it's a good thing, because I couldn't have afforded to buy it if it wasn't available for $17. (Since this conversation started yesterday it's at $28.)

I'll be using the profits to buy my wii. The only question is when to sell? It just keeps going up and up. :)

Well, if 26770 yen is $227, then Nintendo is not trading for 26770 yen. I should know because I bought Nintendo stock last year for $17 per share, and now it's worth $27 per share. >:P

Nintendo is definitely not worth $227 per share. (I wish it was!)

26,770 yen is $27, not $227
