First Hyundai Genesis Coupe commercial hits Korea, pricing revealed
Sep 5th 2008 3:39PM (Autoblog)Therefore US$30,100 for a 3.8 Genesis Coupe is actually quite reasonable.

Sep 3rd 2008 9:21PM (Autoblog)> You say there are no "world class" Chinese comapnies? How about Lenovo computers who bought out the former American computer giant IBM?
Some Arab company buying out Aston Martin doesn't make Arabs world class luxury auto makers. Ditto for Indians who bought out Jaguar and Land Rover.
> Or Haier who makes tons of appliences sold across the world?
Haier competes on price in low-end segment and is not considered a world-class brand.
> How long have they been at this capitalisim thing? Oh, about 25 years!
This is why I keep saying you don't know Chinese. Chinese were the capitalists before the time of Jesus Christ. Or the beginning of Roman Republic for that matter.
> Canada has very different cultural tastes from the US
Canada is obviously closer to the US culturally than to Europe.

Sep 3rd 2008 3:30PM (Autoblog)> I think I understand Chinese culture pretty well, I studied at Peking University in Beijing for a year.
That's not enough.
> Yeah, China is different from Japan and so is the US from Canada and Mexico.
Exactly, comparing China to Japan is like comparing Mexico to the US. Totally different language, culture, and mindset. It isn't like comparing Canada to the US.
> You say that the Korean have changed in just 20 years why not the Chinese?
Because Koreans weren't so price driven to begin with. They just didn't value quality as much as they do now.
> So I have a very good understanding of East Asian, most notably Chinese culture and it didn't come from Wikipedia.
Then you should know better than anyone why there are no world-class high-quality Chinese brands today, and why it is highly unlikely that Chinese would repeat the automotive history of Japan and Korea.

Sep 3rd 2008 9:28AM (Autoblog)Only those who don't understand East Asian society would dare to compare Chinese to Japanese or Koreans. Chinese simply don't have the concept of "Quality", "Price" is everything to them. Japanese historically prized quality above price for 1000 years, Koreans went from price-centric to quality-centric only within past 20 years. Chinese on the other hand have been price-driven for 4000 years, and they still are willing to sacrifice quality and safety in exchange for the lowest price possible. This is in their culture.

Aug 28th 2008 11:55AM (Engadget HD)Tell that to NASA and CIA, which have been doing the physically impossible for decades.
> but it's incorrect to refer to the processed result as "native" 960p in any way.
Output of Super Upconversion is 960p native. This technology works by computationally fusing 9 adjacent SD frames to computationally recreate single 960p HD frame. The processor power to do this inexpensively wasn't available to CE domain until now, so the US military and government agencies were primary users of this tech.
