Meta-Metareview: The best reviewed games of 2008
Nov 27th 2008 3:36PM (Joystiq)Now I'm confused about how Metacritic does its scoring. In this case, the 360's score is based on 54 reviews and the PS3's is based on 38 reviews. When you look at the ones that are absent from the PS3, many of them were poor but the bad reviews are missing (in particular Gamespy which rated both the 360 and the PS3 version identically at 70). If Metacritic was consistent in its scoring, both versions would have fallen below the line.

Nov 27th 2008 2:56PM (Joystiq)Good question: why doesn't the Xbox 360 have its own browser?
Oct 15th 2006 12:14AM (Joystiq)1) The IE codebase relies heavily on COM and Win32 GDI objects, two technologies Microsoft didn't port to the 360.
2) Microsoft is currently rearchitecting IE in the migration from IE6 to IE7 - any browser engineers not working on improving security are doing a disservice to a billion Windows users.
3) In the online gaming world, cheating will kill a system faster than anything else. Xbox Live is only as safe as its entry points, the consoles. Its much easier to secure a system with a small number of attack vectors than it is to secure a full-blown computer. Everyone knows that every browser, not just IE, will have vulnerabilities - can Microsoft prevent a day zero attack from compromising a console and thus providing a hacker access to Xbox Live?
Its a huge development expense and a huge risk for a feature that not many people are particularly interested in.
