Deus Ex: Human Revolution loading times compared

Aug 22nd 2011 5:42PM (Joystiq)
@LexStewther I always got the impression that this was more for people with both systems who were trying to decide which version to get.

I wouldn't pick one system to buy over another over something like that, but I would pick one version of the game over the other over it.

That said, I already picked it up for the PS3 today. Five seconds isn't enough to justify bringing it back and getting the 360 version.

New Assassin's Creed: Revelations trailer dubsteps into the light

Aug 17th 2011 2:14PM (Joystiq)
@Cryo Because this is the marketing style that Ubisoft has been going with ever since AC1. The reveal is always an amazing but pre-rendered CG trailer, and then there's a gameplay trailer using modern music.

Notch challenges Bethesda to Quake 3 deathmatch for 'Scrolls' trademark

Aug 17th 2011 2:09PM (Joystiq)
This is a really awful idea.

Now when Bethesda continues to take this to court, they'll be able to hold up a print out of his blog post and go "You see? He isn't even taking this seriously. He wanted to settle it over a video game."

Will not help him at all.

Minecraft studio threatened with suit by Bethesda over 'Scrolls' title

@McPo Found the mix up. This article claims that they'll sue IF Mojang doesn't stop using the name. Notches post doesn't mention any ultimatum. They really said that they intend to sue Mojang:

" I got a 15 page letter from some Swedish lawyer firm, saying they demand us to stop using the name Scrolls, that they will sue us (and have already paid the fee to the Swedish court), and that they demand a pile of money up front before the legal process has even started."

"they will sue us" and "they will sue us if" are very different situations.

@McPo I'm not defending Bethesda's legal team at all for this. It's a stupid claim on their part. I'm just saying this articles headline is sensationalist. Nobody is being sued right now.

As for the boycott, I don't think an ineffective threat to not buy a game that is going to sell amazingly well is going to do anything regarding this. The bad press alone will do all the work.

Threatening to sue is not suing. Kind of a sensationalized headline if you ask me. Also before everyone starts drafting their Skyrim boycott webpages, remember that Bethesda's legal team is not Bethesda's development team.

ModernWarfare3.com owner outed by GoDaddy

Jul 19th 2011 10:13AM (Joystiq)
@theSkillfull1 Actually what he did was domain squatting and it's illegal, so not only is he not protected, but he's at fault.

If he could show that he was legitimately using the domain for something unrelated to the game series he would have an argument, but he very clearly was squatting.

And before people knock on cybersquatting laws, remember that it works both ways. Without them large companies like Activision would be able to buy domains and squat on them to hurt smaller competitors.

A whirlwind tour of LA Noire's Rockstar Pass DLC

Jun 1st 2011 12:41PM (Joystiq)
@latin trident The pass includes the stuff you saw in the video only. They word it the way they did because 2 of those 4 DLC cases you get aren't out yet. So technically it's future DLC. I assume that means all DLC after these 4 cases will still need to be purchased.

LA Noire launch trailer is all good cops and grimaces

May 11th 2011 4:42PM (Joystiq)
@mmmfishtacos There wasn't facial mocap for Uncharted. At least that's what they imply in all their behind-the-scenes videos. It seemed like they did mocap for all of the body movement and then got traditional 3d animators to animate all of the faces.

As you can see with Uncharted, it works really well. Unfortunately it's not really practical for scaling up. So you wouldn't see that quality in a game like GTA or Red Dead where there are so many characters and cutscenes.

This technology is exciting because if it can be perfected and streamlined, you can see this high quality facial animation for huge games. Imagine an RPG like Mass Effect or Fallout with facial animation like that.

Brink review: Jumping high and falling flat

@DerKapitan Well aren't you the cool little non-conformist iconoclast. Did you buy Brink on vinyl?
