Bonk & Sonic.

That is all.

Rumor: no pre-owned games for PS3?

May 24th 2006 9:08PM (Joystiq)
Reminds me of installed PC games. Considering how sony has all but admitted that ps3 games will be running off a HD cache of some sort, i cant say i would be too surprised if they did implement some sort of similar "1 install 1 system" restriction as PC games. If nothing else, sony has been consistent with their stance on trying to control the media they sell you. Anyway, if true, sony takes ANOTHER big L... smh

Immersion offers to teach Sony's DualShake to dance

May 19th 2006 9:57PM (Joystiq)
^^^ Seconded. Legally speaking, sony doesnt have a leg to stand on, which is why they lose appeal after appeal. They are just stalling with yet another appeal right now so that they dont have to embarassingly pull all their products from the shelves. They will quietly pay eventually. The patent system, b.s. or not, will not change. Too many companies with too much money at stake wouldnt allow it (especially pharmaceuticals).

And to clear things up for those who dont know the back story, here is the situation: Immersion holds patent on spinning dual-weight rumble tech. Nintendo (or a subsidiary) holds patent on spinning single-weight rumble tech. This is why immersion did not and cannot sue ninty. Both microsoft and sony, however, ganked the dual-weight tech for their controllers without licensing from immersion, who eventually sued. Microsoft settled out of court for around $20 mil, then proceeded to buy 10% of immersion corp. Sony took another route, and i guess tried to grind the small company down with endless prolonging litigation (that extra cashflow from said microsoft deal sure came in handy, hmm...). Now, like 3 appeals and $90 mil later, sony would still rather cripple their next big thing than to admit they LOST and get on with business. This stubborness/ego is going to cost them.

Also, for the ninty fanboys with their heads in the clouds about how hi-tech and "innovative" the wiimote is, reality check:

John Woo's Stranglehold hands-on

This is actually one of my more looked forward to games. I grew up on the classic chow/woo movies. Tell me how lack of rumble wont hurt the ps3 version...

E3 Vox Populi: Will lack of rumble hurt the PS3? [update 1]

May 13th 2006 2:25PM (Joystiq)
Personally i would choose rumble over the tilt sensor in a second. Rumble has become an integral part of most console games imo... i own a gamecube and i DO think the wavebird is missing something. For games like re4 or sports games, i always pull back out the wired controllers, even when the wavebird is just sitting within arms reach. And i challenge anyone to say that they did not have a big silly grin on their face the first time they "felt" the elevator move in MGS.

Oh, and sony's claims that rumble interferes with tilt is absurd. How is warioware:twisted able to work so well then? Is sony admitting they cant do for their flagship console what nintendo was able to on a tiny little $30 gba cart? No, this is obviously sony being cheap and refusing to pay for licensing immersion's tech like microsoft does. As for why sony can still sell ps2 dualshocks, i am sure they are paying immersion behind closed doors for the little time remaining that they will need until the ps2 fades away. You don't pay $90+ million in damages if you didnt utterly and completely lose that lawsuit, simple as that.

Personally, i will wait until logitech comes out with their tilt + rumble ps3 controller (because logitech will actually license their stuff the legit way) before i even consider a ps3... rumble is that important imo.

Spore figurines at E3

Gotta catch 'em all! That sleepy frog and stomach creature are too cute!

I also hope we can make more mammalian creatures in the final game... 6 armed poo flinging monkey ftw!

Nintendo to discontinue Game Boy line?

May 11th 2006 10:58PM (Joystiq)
The DS was ALWAYS the next gameboy!!! That "3 pillars" bs was just so they have something to say in case the touchscreen / dual screen "gimmick" flopped. Do you really expect the next gameboy to go back to a single screen with only standard button input?

Wii impressions: Madden NFL 07

May 11th 2006 1:47AM (Joystiq)
Please clarify. Throwing the ball requires you to mimic a throwing motion? Or is it a "flick of the wrist" like casting a fishing pole? Toss motion sounds awesome, flick not so much. And i agree the "why cant i just press the a button" comment was ridiculous...

Zelda: Twilight Princess a no show on GameCube

May 11th 2006 1:36AM (Joystiq)
Im outraged by the lack of outrage there is that this game effectively got bumped off the cube. No one in their right minds will get the inferior cube version now. Why couldnt they just cram the wii functionality onto more cube discs? (Well i know why, they sell more hardware this way) I just didnt think nintendo would be so cheap i guess, silly me. Cant say it wasnt completely unexpected though...
