I posted this the other day, but it did not go through so I am posting it again...
I think the idea looks good on the site, the member profiles are diverse, the messaging is pure, and there is actual game play in the competiton. In fact, I was about to email them to be a judge...
But THEN I looked at the site a little harder...
Who are the people behind Miss Videogames? Address on site looks like a home address? Has this event been done before? I don’t see ANY sponsors or companies supporting this. What happens if they don’t get any sponsors, will it still take place?
I think it is scary to post up pics and win a trip to see a potential gamer-girl stalker, you never know. What if this is the biggest gamer-girl hoax of the century? Or worse, what if some guy meets her at the airport with a big knife? Scary!!!
If they do turn out to have credentials and get a major partner or sponsor, then who knows? I will probably send that email to ask if they want a female judge!
I will continue to follow this and hope for the best, but people need to be safe and realize that a 12 year old could have put up this site. Gamergirls and media reporting it need to be careful, but hopefully it will turn out to be a great event!!!
The message seems pure in highlighting women gamers since profile's featured were diversified and game play was a definite factor in winning...not a bad message at all! At least it is not for models that don’t know the difference between Mario from Sonic, it is actually a contest for gamer girls that involve PLAYING games, woo hoo!
However...
