Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War

I'm sorry, but you're full of shit. It's the Japanese that fudge their textbooks to hide from their shameful past. Not the same for Germans, they have confronted their demons and are model citizens.

Could DS Fanboy be right?

No, fool. The only reason Sony is still selling the PSP at those numbers is because it is a SONY PLAYSTATION (PORTABLE... shh). The Gizmondo was basically a PSP but see where that ended up. Nintendo didn't call this one a gameboy, but a DS. Your familiarity argument falls short.

Curator Kojima: "Games are not art"

Jan 24th 2006 2:40AM (Joystiq)
If you put it that way then everything in this world is art. It's in the eye of the beholder right?
For example, a geek skimming through a PC magazine looks upon the latest video card. To him, it encompasses everything that is beautiful. It is the pinnacle of human creativity. All of these emotions are compatible with the definition of art. It is a 'means to an end - entertainment'.
Of course, lots of people will smirk at this and say, 'No way, a video card is not art'.
I am saying that I agree with Hideo Kojima, in that we don't think that kind of 'entertainment' and 'enlightenment' is not really considered an artform.

Curator Kojima: "Games are not art"

I don't think games are art. They sure have artistic merits, since graphic artists design character, interior artists design buildings, musicians creating beautiful music etc. But in the end, the purpose of a game is to entertain you, to have fun. It is meant to kill time. The higher arts are there not to entertain, but to push the boundaries of thinking, to inspire, to present the vast array of beauty, and depravity that exist in this world. Games can do that, but if they are not fun to play, noone will want to pick one up.

Joystiq Interview: Peter Moore @ CES

Well if you have about 2 million people queueing outside for you to make some more, yes it is a success. The demand is there, it is prevalent throughout US and Europe.

PSP outsells DS in US by 1 million

Jan 19th 2006 7:59PM (Joystiq)
lol Jon Speed, you accused the others of being fanboys but then your post is a textbook example of a fanboy post as well.

And post #48. You are wrong. The majority of people are casual gamers who like to play in short amounts. These are the people who Nintendo are targeting and Sony is abandoning with the PSP. Only tech geeks and style conscious people buy the PSP, and these people are not considered the 'majority'.

"Once the PSP price comes down, the DS is dead outside of the hardcore Nintendo fans(who make up alot of people on this board)."

Man these kind of messages are so stupid. Time is the only factor which will lower the PSP's price, and the DS is not immune to that either. What kind of a whacky world do you live in if you think the DS's price will remain the same where the PSP will get cheaper?

Sony targets Xbox Live with questionnaire

#30 what the hell did you write, i couldn't understand a thing.
Anyways, I think it is a little late for Sony to get into it, but if they don't at least start now it will be too late. I was convinced Sony was dead the moment they announced that they won't have a centralised online service, but now I think there is hope left. Better late than never.

How Darwin explains our taste in games

Jan 18th 2006 6:28PM (Joystiq)
I love stuff like this.
But what does this have to do with games? I think gamers are getting a bit too pretentious nowadays claiming that gaming has any artistic merit. I suppose art does have a part in games, but it doesn't compare with other mediums. This article is regarding mediums which are much more sophisticated than games.

The media's crush on Nintendo

As usual anything relating to Nintendo receives 20+ comments. This is tribal warfare really.
