If you've EVER played Dota, it's essentially the same. Lane, kill creeps, gain experience, go in the jungle and kill champion creeps for more gold and creeps, get awesome items that enhance your stats...pwn other players. The biggest key to success is knowing your heroes skills (especially their ultimate move), team coordination/communication for group fights and ganking, and knowing how to build a good team.

Sorry that you had a bad experience. I have to admit there are a lot of elitist players out there but you can't take it personally. I never do when I play. Some people are hardcore even as newbs (0.0 KDR - 1:1 KDR) but if you listen to what they say and take it with stride, you win. Wishing a game and community would shut down because a few people ruin the game experience is kind of harsh.
