actually, the big N uses a proprietary media format because they have complete control of it and can charge publishers/developers an arm and a leg for it.

Example:

Wii RVT-R - approx $6 per disc as of RIGHT NOW. it's been this same price since the Wii first released.

When you figure ONE publisher/developer can go through hundreds to thousands during testing (since the media is not re-writable), you can see how mula ol' Ninty can make off of just the media alone.

Let's not even get into all the hardware and special burning drives that have to be used... sheesh!

Anyway, that's the true scoop on why Nintendo loves them some proprietary media.
