@FriedConsole Despite what you may think I really doubt JJ Abrams has that many fanboys. The film was a massive success and not just with trekkies and 'nerds'.
I'll agree with above that the biggest factor was that it was fun, with a well chosen cast and a solid script.
Skeptical about the game, although as it isn't an actual adaptation of a film it could surprise me. Makes me wonder if we are going to get the long overdue Star Trek '2' announcement sometime soon though, what with Super 8 all but in the can.
I am already imagining the potential of a Kinect 'Omni tool'. So long as developing such a system didn't take away time from something more important like combat, story or characters (all of which have been shown and are looking awesome so far) then I'm cool with it. In fact it's quite an exciting idea depending on how they use it, and that's coming from someone who doesn't have a Kinect or any desire to get one.
Not sure about the console versions (how well they have aged etc.) but if you haven't already tried the PC version it is definitely worth it. The amount of mods out there can cater to your every whim with the game, from just re-balancing the combat to changing the graphics or adding hundreds of new things to do. Brilliant value for money from that perspective and still looks great today (if you ask me).
If they get the gameplay right on this I'll almost certainly be getting it. The first was a classic. And they are giving it away free with the new game? Even better.
@BLipp18 Nope. If our intrepid social networkers don't get to work the game will NEVER be revealed! It'll just be titled 'Assassin's Creed: Forever' and be left in development limbo for the rest of time. :(
I adore this series, even though Dreamfall suffered in some areas and left so many things unfinished. I remember when he discussed releasing a sequel in episodic format, but apparently that amounted to nothing so not holding my breath this will lead to an announcement anytime soon. With that said it's one of those series I could wait for 50 years and I would still pre-order a sequel instantly if it was announced.
Making a multiplayer componant that was as polished, deep and fun as the single player would have drained a lot of resources. It wouldn't have mattered if a seperate team worked on it, games don't have unlimited budgets.
No matter which way you shake it, if they had added MP the question would always be asked as to whether the SP could have been better in some way if the money (and even the seperate team) was spent on that instead.
Really those wanting multiplayer are just being impatient anyway. I would understand if this was the end of the franchise with it having no hope of ever having another game made of it. But this is Mass Effect, there will be a multiplayer game after ME3 you can count on it.
Looking forward to this! Seems to have a bit of everything, and thus something for everyone. I have a character well placed to check out Nu Everswim and I welcome the new cosmetic slots and soloable volume two. I'm hoping this means they are now developing the epic story to be soloable going forward, or it would be a massive waste of resources to just come back and revamp it all months down the line.
@Comrade Domovoi You can sorta get away with doing that already. You have to put up with some tricky questing or skirmishes after LL is finished and you move on to Evendim or Trollshaws but it's doable. /can'tstandND.
I'm in agreement that they should revamp those zones ala Evendim/LL to make it more viable however. Choice makes everything better.
@Yellowdancer I would be very surprised if ME3 isn't pushed back into 2012. ME2 used to be penciled in as a holidays release as well at one point if I remember correctly.
