Club Nintendo 'Dot Mario Cushion' is another reason to envy Japan

@Bronze Brad
Their lineup of stuff that you can order with your coins is actually not that different from what is offered in America. They just tend to get better platinum rewards.

You must not like Mario, because if you like Mario much at all, I would think it nearly impossible not to want this.

TMNT Re-Shelled no longer available in US after June 30

There are a lot of issues with downloadable games on consoles, but they dominate PC gaming and with good reason. Downloadable PC games benefit from competition between sellers, and the simple fact that the platform cannot really become obsolete or lose complete support (at least for the foreseeable future). The only big concerns then become the survivability of the distributor and DRM, and DRM on PC rarely approaches the restrictiveness of what has to be dealt with on all console downloads. Microsoft will likely drop support of Xbox 360 content just like they did with the Xbox not long after their next console releases unless it is fully backward compatible, and it won't be if we go by their track record. I, however, am quite confident that I will have no problems with my content from Steam.

I have bought downloadable titles on all the current console, but every time I have bought it assuming that it is quite possible that the content I purchased may be unavailable shortly after the next generation of consoles releases.

Nintendo stock loses another five percent

If I were a shareholder, I would be terrified right now. The Wii is seeing a sharp decline, and the 3DS is underperforming, and though the lines for Wii U may be long the responses have been mediocre. You have to have a truly amazing piece of hardware with the software to back it up to sell a handheld for $250, and I don't think we will see a Wii U with the controller for less than four hundred. That will be a hard sell when the competition can offer their wares for almost half the price, and with a wider game selection to boot. However, they may just pull it off riding the wave of the tablet craze.
I do have to say that I was quite happy when I saw Mario 3D, but not happy enough to shell out $250 for a handheld that really should be $150. Nintendo is going to have to be more aggressive in the handheld market with rising competition from smart phones and from Sony since they have shown a spectacular piece of hardware that addresses most if not all of the weaknesses of their previous offerings.

Red Faction: Armageddon review: Enemy mine

Jun 1st 2011 12:21PM (Joystiq)
This is the biggest video gaming disappointment of the year for me. I am at least glad that I saw it coming as soon as Volition started releasing details about the game. Why take an immensely fun but flawed open world game that allows for destruction that can only leave you giddy and turn it into a dark tunnel crawl, and where is my multiplayer at? It is very rare that I get into a game's multiplayer, but I had a blast with Guerrilla. It was the most fun I have had with multiplayer since my days of marathon Team Fortress sessions (and I do mean Team Fortress not 2 or classic). I really hope another Red Faction game is made that harkens back to Guerrilla. The only things that should survive this game are the magnet gun and the rebuild ability.

Yu Suzuki: 'I think Sega's going to let me' make Shenmue 3

Mar 2nd 2011 3:07PM (Joystiq)
Dear Sega,

I know we haven't spoken over the last few years. We started off the new millennium with a Dreamcast love affair that we thought would never end, but you let me down. You gave up on the Dreamcast and started fooling around with other consoles, and you let yourself go. I guess I should have known when Shadow started coming around, but I thought we had something special. Maybe if you just let Shenmue 3 happen, I can learn to love again.

Sincerely,
Your Jilted Lover

Apple reveals iPad 2, coming March 11

Tablets are good for little more than web browsing for me, and that makes continued lack of flash a deal breaker. In a perfect world, we would have some Android and ios baby. An open market with native flash support and the polish and ease of use of ios. Android might just get us there in a year or two. ios will sadly never have an open market or native flash support, and before I get flamed by fanboys from either camp, I had an iphone 3G for two and a half years, and I currently have a comparable Android based device. I have also used the top tier devices from both camps. Right now it comes down to polish and consistency with limited options vs. freedom and greater potential with less consistency.

Report: Blizzard suing over Korean StarCraft broadcast rights

Dec 5th 2010 5:01PM (Joystiq)
@Letum
I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that the main reason that they aren't playing SC2 is because there is no LAN support and because Blizzard demanded licensing fees from anyone who wanted to broadcast. Blizzard removed all of the incentive to play SC2 competitively in Korea.

Report: Blizzard suing over Korean StarCraft broadcast rights

Dec 5th 2010 4:53PM (Joystiq)
Activision Blizzard has become the greediest publisher out there. Starcraft would not be what it is today without LAN play and the massive support that it has received from Korea. They will ban you for cheating in single player, and they will sue you if you don't pay them to advertise their product. What won't they do to screw their customers or to squeeze out a few extra bucks.

Xbox Live Indie Games store now falls under Games & Demos section

Nov 9th 2010 1:07PM (Joystiq)
Indie games are back where they belong. Now, if only they would change everything else back to the way it was. The current setup features less windows on screen at a time, and they even slowed down scrolling. I'm sure we were all clamoring for a slower experience, right?
