PS3 firmware 2.30 adds DTS-HD Master, High Resolution Audio

Apr 10th 2008 10:34AM (Joystiq)
All this means is that the PS3 will render audio in much higher quality than over 90% of PS3 owners will be able to appreciate with their current sound systems. 24-bit @ 96kHz is pretty much one of the gold standards of professional audio. But yeah, wake me up when they are doing 32-bit @ 192 kHz, because then it will actually sound better than real life.

Awesome. Confirmed.

Black College Football Experience coming in November

Sep 6th 2007 9:54AM (Joystiq)
I grew up watching Alcorn State University's football team compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC, pronounced "swack"), so I was rudely surprised when I found out the all football wasn't the same as historically black college and university (HBCU) experience. I remember thinking while watching a big 10 football game, "Damn, that band can't dance at all!"

Anyway, assuming that the football is any good, it's nice to see the greater gaming community get a taste of culture to which they wouldn't normally be exposed. I generally don't play many football games, but if I can see those big legged dancers come out at halftime ... woo-whee!

Fanswag: Win a 120GB Hard Drive for Xbox 360 [update]

I am so close to returning my 360 to buy an elite anyway ... but I could use that $100 for ... well ... anything else.

Joyswag: Win a copy of BioShock, get it overnighted (Part 1)

Aug 16th 2007 12:43PM (Joystiq)
Favorite part so far? The not-even-remotely-subtle overtones of objectivism. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling to obliterate not some nameless entity with no personality but rather someone who is certifiably nuttier than squirrel poo.

Joyswag: BioShock Xbox 360 faceplate & t-shirt

Aug 14th 2007 9:24PM (Joystiq)
Congratulations on Bioshock, guys and girls! While it looks like you have a sure-fire winner on your hands, remember what the prophet Waka said in the PS2 game Okami:

"Life is about resolve. Outcome is secondary. It is resolve that determines the value of your life."

Regardless of what the sales numbers do, know that you've worked hard to produce an immersive game with the most spot-on concept of atmosphere I've experienced in my household. Games aren't art my ass.

Thanks for seeing the project through to the end, and we'll do our part to make it a success.

Lose your innocence with this Tales of Innocence trailer

I don't know. If there is no voice acting, I can probably stomach it. However, Namco Bandai traditionally hires the worst voice actors the planet has to offer for English localization ... with exception of Konami (for Elebits). I mean, it's almost as bad as Old Navy commercials.

Bought! That's just what I was waiting to hear. Now I don't need to buy a new dictionary just to play this game; instead I can stick to Rikai.com.

I want to say Odin Chambers, but Chambers Odin (chamber o' din) makes more sense.

DS Daily: Was EBA good enough to make you import Ouendan?

Apr 25th 2007 7:52PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Played Ouendan and then bought EBA. There are merits to each (Ouendan having the better music selection and saner rhythms, while EBA has more polish and tighter tap controls), and I believe both have enough life in them for one more sequel.

But why is the Guitar Hero series the only rhythm game series in the states with a consistently good soundtrack?
