Watch the PlayStation Motion Controller in action

Jun 4th 2009 11:09AM (Joystiq)
rruss79, yes I do know MS has been working on motion tech for awhile, but it is well known that this was the missing peice and thus why they aquired 3DV systems after CES. Anyways it will be interesting to see price as the Zcam was supposed to be $100US but did not include all this background processing that MS has added to it, so I am guessing at least $175US but the thing with MS is they will take a loss just to get the product going, so it will be interesting to see.

Watch the PlayStation Motion Controller in action

I don't know how many of you have been following the eye toy developments, but to say this was put together last minute is WAY off, Dr Richard Marx has been working with motion control and motion tracking with sony for over a decade! Here is a very old video that was being done on the original PS2 eye toy, as you can see there are many things in here that were also shown/built on in e3 2009.

I think the microsoft tech is very good, they bought this tech last year, and use infrared emiter/reader for depth which is smart but also farily expensive to get down to the size there demo unit shows. If you read the hands on with Natal they do not have it anywhere that close in size, and they have a PC doing the processing still, also there is some lag with Natal, Sonys does not look like it has any lag, and the precision was impressive to say the least, it will be interesting to see what totally different games will be developed on these technologies, but for me I definatly am more interested in Sonys tech and it should be able to be much less expensive to manufactuer.

SOCOM headset officially revealed

Jun 29th 2008 3:56PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Not sure if anyone noticed, but in the last picture you can see a little nub at the bottom of the headset, this looks alot like a JawBone. For those that do not know what that is it is a Bluetooth headset that uses a sensor that sits on your cheek and when you talk it listens but when you are not talking it uses noise shield technology to cancel out everything around you. I am very interested if this is the case, because right now my jawbone works GREAT with PS3 the only thing it is missing is that mute button. Interested if anyone else has one and thinks the same as me. I went to the socom site where they talk about it a bit and they mention there is more features to be announced so this would be great news if it was the same tech in teh jawbone.

Joystiq interviews Unreal Tournament 3's Mark Rein

Aug 3rd 2007 12:48PM (Joystiq)
This is to mark and anyone else at Epic, yes us PS3 owners want mouse and keyboard support, this is a big want not just from me but a very large group of owners on http://www.ps3forums.com

We want this as alot of us could not keep up with the PC tech and thus have placed our bets on the PS3 being able to deliver gauranteed great games with great fetures not available on any other system.

Anyone else that wants this feature lets make it known as apparantly Mark/Epic do not know this as of yet. Even if like Mark says they do not want to delay the game, please at least gaurantee us that it will be in a patch. Anyways this is our chance to let them know, so please do it! Thanks

How did you blow your NES cartridge?

Oct 29th 2006 9:50PM (Joystiq)
I used to use the blow technique, but in the end I ended up prying the cartridge in the NES with my little sisters fisher price ketchup bottle. It worked perfectly and never had to blow again.
