Minecraft studio threatened with suit by Bethesda over 'Scrolls' title

Aug 5th 2011 4:54PM (Joystiq)
Hey Bethesda lawyer types, Egypt calls and want its cut on your use of the word Scrolls in your games a clear violation of their invention. Sure it may be past the the limit of Fair use but defitely still falls under the Curse of the Pharoah clause.

But on a serious note its not like they called their game The Older Scrolls. So I hope that the legal system does not see this Bethesda's way.

Raid Rx: Reality check for heroic healing

Dec 17th 2010 5:32PM (WoW)
I find that it isn't too bad if you use all you spells with the right talents you can have a constant 30% bonus haste to healing wave and Greater healing wave if you keep rip tide up. And unleash elements give a good boost to heal so pop rip tide unlease then ghw for a pretty decent heal and use healing wave for maintence. It does not seem to be working 100% but Healing surge gets a 30% crit bonus with the same talent making it close to GHW when it crits and slightly cheaper mana wise (if it crits)and it it triggers several other talents 10% less damage and the bonus heal over time and should consume a sheild charge quite alot (though I think may be bugged cause Im not seeing it working alot to have a 60% chance ). I want to test this one more but I think it has potential especial when you start breaking the 20% natural crit mark.

Not sure how I can work the shock spell in for that bonus 30% to heal I think the global cooldown migh make that less desireable.

Roll your own Xbox 360 HDD, save $100

Apr 23rd 2007 1:32PM (Joystiq)
Well this is good news but I will wait to see what happens cause if there is any way MS can check HD revisions etc and turn around and void access to live accounts on that consoles serial number that would suck.

But this may be a simple as cracking open the HD enclosure and replacing the sata drive with the same kind they would be putting in the store bought 120 gig version and may be hard for them to punish people for it. I hope this is the case.

PS3 firmware 1.30 "fixes" 1080i problem

Dec 6th 2006 5:29PM (Joystiq)
My rear projection HDTV only supports the 1080i HD format and the 480p 480i. Most of my friends have rear projection tvs and are in the same boat. Those that say there isnt a difference between 480p and 1080i are being foolish or are seriously misinformed.

Virtual Console game suspension (Wii delight #004)

Dec 6th 2006 3:04PM (Joystiq)
I do agree with both arguments for more that one save state and those for one. I would like to see more though for multiple users. Luckily I dont have to share my Wii. I dont see it being an issue of cheating if the game only allowed one state per playthough so you could only save the state that you started the game on. Guess cant complain too much as this is really just a perk feature anyways.

North Carolina deputy kills suspected PS3 thief and his dog [update 2]

Dec 4th 2006 12:52AM (Joystiq)
This is definatly a sad situation for all involved. Both the Police involved and the family of the deceased. I will not pass condemnation on the Police or the deceased here though without the full story.

But I do side more with the police since this person was suspected of armed robbery. The Police would have been on more alert in this situation. They are trained professionals and have training in handling situations were they are forced to put there lives in danger and choose to kill if neccessary. There are no real superhero's that never kill anyone or the cowboys that shoot the gun out of the bad guys hand that is fantasy and such actions would be concidered reckless.

Dogs are very loyal so it may have acted in protection of its master even before they had to make the decision to shoot either. So before you condemn these officers remember they will have to live with the fact that they took a life even if it was or wasn't the best decision at the time.

Anybody that says the police should not defend themselves against man or beast are really not being fair to them. If this turns out to be a case of the the Police not obeying policy or doing this in cold blood then this should be addressed accordingly. But there is is a broad range of situations or mistakes by both parties that could have been made this situation unfold the way it did.

Breakfast Video: Eggs over 360

Oct 30th 2006 3:34PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I wonder if this was before or after MS said they would repair the 1st run 360's for free. Seems a waste of a good system even with the refurb cost. Ah well if that gave them pleasure with there system that is their business.
