Sony confirms plans to chuck boomerang controller (and it won't come back)
Mar 22nd 2006 10:13PM (Joystiq)Or is it their attempt to make nintendo's controller obsolite??
Or maybe then again they ARE just changing the controller because of consumer reaction.
I'd REALY like to know their true motivation behind the change but I guess we'll never REALLY know. (well not until E3 at least).
Rumor: Revolution to be renamed this Thursday
Mar 22nd 2006 12:35AM (Joystiq)Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
Nintendo 64 (N64)
Super Nintendo 64 (NDS)
Gamecube (GCN)
hmm.... I wonder where I'm going??
Super Gamecube!!!! LOL Only joking!!
Ed Boon on the Revolution controller
Mar 19th 2006 5:37AM (Joystiq)Ok, Let's look at it this way:
Mortal combat won't work with the revolution controller. And many other Current gen games wont work either...
So that could mean that nintendo will not have great 3rd Party support...
Hmmm is this really bad? Let's see on a small scale for the revolution...
100 people want an X type of game.
No third party supports the rev in this genre so Nintendo produce the game themselves... Because there is only 1 selection for this genre lets say only 50 people purchase it and the other 50 choose not too because it's not exactly what they wanted... well Nintendo at lease sell 50 units of this game and they've made their money back plus plenty of profit...
Now lets say 10 third party's develope this X style genre and again 100 people are wanting this style.
in total probably 95 will purchase one of these games but unfortunatly 3 companies only sell 5 units each of theirs and run at a major loss, 5 companies sell 15 units of their game each and break even... and the last 2 companies sell 20 - 25 copies of their game each and make a small profit. (Taking into account that some gamers will purchase more then 1 type of this same genre).
Now, unfortunatly for the industry the 3 companies that run at a loss will probably claim bankrupsy, the 5 that broke even will probably not develope this genre again or at least be EXTRA carfull in what they design... and the 2 companies that made profit will probably produce sequals of these games.
So technically only 2 companies out of 10 are really better off...
What I'm trying to get at here is that TOO much 3rd party support can cause the industry to flop... Not enough 3rd party support will mean too few titles coming out on a particular platform.
So from what I can see, nintendo Seem better off with their currently reasonable amount of third party support. Not to mention their would then be too many rehashes of same old same old gamestyle if there where as many publishers as there is for the xbox/360 and ps2/3.
If you think of it this way the lack of third party support for the gamecube did not mean less money for them, in fact quite the opposite as they made more money on their titles then they would have had they had a higher % 3rd party support.
Anyway, back onto MK - Conventional style 3d fighting will probably not make an appearence on the rev unless it utalises the shell/GCN controller, However, NEW styles of 3D fighting games WILL be developed so their will still be our fighting games. Simply said!
Breaking News: PS3 delayed until November!
Mar 14th 2006 7:18PM (Joystiq)What I see happening is these games comming out on 360 this year, then when the PS3 is released these sames games are gonna seem like last generation games because they've been available for so long already.
Ouch for Sony!
Zelda: TP will be "special" on the Revolution
Feb 20th 2006 8:08PM (Joystiq)I DON'T own a GC nore anyone I know has one...
But I AM looking forward to Zelda TP... Big Time!!!
Now if they released Zelda TP well before the Rev release I'll be really ticked off because I won't be able to play it!!! I don't want to have to go out and purchase a GC just to play the game and then get the Revolution on the Launch date as well!
BUT
if they do release Zelda TP close to the Revolution Launch I can just purchase my Revolution and straight away play Zelda TP without it being out for 6 months already.
Think of it this way... There are only 20 Million GC owners.
There ARE many others who Don't own a GC whom are hanging out for Zelda TP.
They ALSO don't want to have to purchase a gc just to get in and play it if they are planning on buying the Revolution just as I am. (at least 1 of my friends is hoping to as well)
I say that if Zelda TP comes out relitivly close to the Revolutions Launch date then thats FANTASTIC for me and ALL those others waiting for the REV who don't own a GC.
Oh and by the way.... I put MY revolution on PRE-ORDER over the weekend at EB Fountain Gate (VIC, Australia). Can't wait for when it comes out.
The Revolution Begins
Feb 19th 2006 7:42PM (Joystiq Nintendo)I walked into EB in Fountain Gate (VIC, Australia) on Sat and found out they have just started taking pre-orders for the Nintendo Revolution.
EB Miranda (NSW, Australia) is also taking pre-orders... Not sure about other places.
So what did I do.... I did what any other Nintendo Fanboy would do. I cancled my Pre-Order for the Xbox 360 and wacked it straight onto the Nintendo Revolution... (I wasn't getting the 360, just wanted to make sure I didn't spend the money so I had a deposit for the Revolution)
The good news for me is that they said I was the FIRST person to pre-order it (through EB Fountain Gate)... I even beat 3 of their staff members wanting to pre-order to the punch.. hehe.
Just thought I'd let you know... (If any Australians read this... Go and PRE-Order your rev to make sure you get it in the first released batch... They said that they've put it on Pre-order so early in the game because there has been so many queries about it!!!)
Magazine reveals Revolution details: Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Konga
Jan 12th 2006 8:32PM (Joystiq)The difference being that the games being made don't NEED to be graphically inhanced to be good... Hence the new game style. Games don't need the graphics because gameplay is what is important...
Unlike MS xbox 360 and Sony playstation 3... what do they have??? OOOOHHHHHH they have GREAT graphics....
So, apparently the "LESS POWERFUL" Nintendo Revolution can achieve the same standard in graphics but nintendo aren't really giving two hoots about graphics because they don't need to.
..........
One other thing, HDTV.... why do you people make this a point in deciding what system you are going to buy????
You DO realise that it'll be at least 4 - 5 years before HI-DEF games will come out.... All others will be standard... ("OH look at my 1 game that has 1080i graphics")... whoopdido. that'll be just 1 game in hi-def over the next 4 - 5 years....
By that time they'll be releasing the next gen console anyway.
As you can tell... yes I'm a nintendo fan. But I DO have to admit, i didn't bother bying a GCN because it just wasn't appealing to me..... I got a PS2 instead (mainly because of the DVD player as I didn't have one at the time).
At least now however the revolution IS appealing. Althought once I get the Rev, i'm sure I'll get either PS3 or 360... i'll just wait on those two to see which one turns out to be better. (but I can garentee they'll be nowhere near as fun as the revolution), just more then likly have a different range of games that will appeal to me that the revolution doesn't have.
