I was in a Q5 the other day when I was in China. I thought the interior, particularly the seats were really well made and I commented:"This must be made in Germany." The driver responded:" Nope, it's made in China." That blew my mind as I've been in many Chinese-made cars and they were all generally a bit low quality. I guess it's my first time in a Chinese-made premium car.

Exactly, it's not like the build high-tech things like bullet trains, solar panels, or electronics. Nor do they have any significant population of grad students. We'll be fine, it'll take them at least a century to become a true global power.

I think you're missing the whole point of this vehicle, it's a cheap military jeep, no more. You could prolly build 10 to 20 of these for the same cost of a hummer. The only reason it's there is because the Chinese want to exploit every opportunity to make a profit, and there's bound to be some military buff out there that wants one.
