Blizzard taking Valve to court over 'DOTA' trademark

Feb 10th 2012 4:43PM (Joystiq)
@Tedstery Valve employs both Eul (creator of DotA) and IceFrog (the current DotA Allstars maintainer).

The question isn't "Why would they name it DOTA 2," but rather "Why wouldn't they name it DOTA2?"

@oxfordfishsalon According to the documentation, Valve filed said trademark back in October 2010. Blizzard filed an opposition in November 2011... over a year later.

And for some reason, this suddenly is a Big Thing in February 2012.

@BrokenCage As previously pointed out, the guy who originally created Defense of the Ancients in 2003, called Eul, works for Valve.

So, you're agreeing that he owns it and can transfer it to his employers just like the Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, and Left 4 Dead guys did?

Batman: Arkham City shipped 6 million in 2011

Honestly, I preferred Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. :/

In game "DLC" that you can also get in game?

Is it via a random drop type system?

Does it include lots of cosmetic items, including hats?

(I'm sure someone sees where I'm going with this)

Tiny Tower builds up 10 million downloads

Feb 7th 2012 6:25PM (Joystiq)
@EIranzer I haven't played the game, but it looks suspiciously like a simplified version of 1994's Sim Tower (aka The Tower).

So, I wouldn't feel SO bad for them.

"Skyrim also becomes the second title to be featured on the Steam Workshop, "

The first is, of course, Team Fortress 2 (submit your own hat ideas!).

@shadowskill11 I thought you had to talk to Mr. Crack.

Capcom net sales down 29%, Monster Hunter sales strong (again)

Feb 2nd 2012 7:25PM (Joystiq)
Lets see... Capcom's decisions over the last year have been to:

1. Cancel two games in one of their oldest franchises (Mega Man).
2. Release DLC for a Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 as an entirely new game instead.
3. Cancel the translation of the latest Ace Attorney game. Granted, this was done by Capcom USA instead of Capcom Japan, but...
4. Decided not to advertise their non-Resident Evil, non-fighting game games. See also: Ghost Trick, Okamiden.

#3 has further consequences, as another title in the Ace Attorney franchise was just announced, but Capcom is crazy if they think anyone is going to skip games in a heavily plot driven series. They've effectively killed this series in North America and Europe.

Simpsons Arcade on XBLA this Friday

Feb 1st 2012 10:08PM (Joystiq)
I always loved this game... too bad Acclaim (who owned the Simpsons console rights) wouldn't allow Konami to make a console version of it.

If you didn't know the Simpsons Arcade Game was by Konami, you've clearly never played the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade games, which are very similar to The Simpsons Arcade Game.
