MS is a software and services company -- it makes sense to release apps on as many platforms as possible. Arbitrarily fencing-off services will only hurt them, and they know it.

This isn't signalling an end to WinMo (obviously), it's just MS admitting that the iPhone has a big user base and getting some of their popular software on that platform is a good idea.

And the "Bing" app, which is already available on WinMo and Blackberry, isn't web search, it's closer to Google Maps. It's a location-aware stuff finder and basic GPS app.

If you don't want the hassle of running in-wall, run along the walls. The big-box hardware stores sell plastic "external conduit" that makes it easy. The good stuff has two parts, a base piece that attaches to the wall and a paintable cover that snaps over it. Once it's up, it looks pretty decent, especially if you can run it along corners. It's not cheap, though, so it could get a little pricey for a larger room.

The moments in Super Metroid when you revisit familiar places from the first game. Seeing a location upgraded to 16-bit yet still recognizable blew my mind.

Opera's best for me because it does everything I want a browser to do perfectly well "out-of-the-box." I've gotten Firefox configured to do the same, but it required numerous plugins (which still need to be independently configured on each system, right?) and wasn't as snappy for browsing.

The only things I like in Firefox that Opera doesn't have are Ubiquity (although it don't think it's quite "there" yet anyways) and the prettier icon.

How is it two steps back at all? They added a ton of new content, they just didn't add text search. So maybe it's one step forward when you wanted two steps forward, but it's hardly a net step back.

This quote really isn't as insulting as you're taking it -- the guy is saying that 360 users want a little flash, not just barebones functionality.

I agree. I have a 360 and a PS3 -- I prefer using the 360 and that owes a bit to it having more "flair." A straight text search is, frankly, going to be boring. Not to say it wouldn't be useful and I'd like to see it at some point, but I can understand their desire to make a nice-looking "browseable" selection first.

Also, if the update really was just "top 50 in genres" that would be one thing, but it isn't. You also get lists of the new additions as well as smart lists ("Things like 'X Movie you Watched'). And if you really really need to search for something specific, you still can. Use your PC.
