@Captain Slender It's not always the fault of QA. Many times, big issues get waived by producers/higher ups just to get the game out. In my time in QA I've seen many issues reported what have got marked as suitable for release.
@Boomzilla Patches that have to go through Microsoft for certification, yes. Patches that don't, no.
If you were going to release an MMO on a platform that required you to go through a week of certification for each patch before your client base could download it, when PC users get it straight away, wouldn't you think twice about releasing it on that platform?
Sony do something similar, but are more willing to waive this than Microsoft are, hence why we're seeing more MMOs on the PS3.
@pradius Very true, but that is for console-specific titles, but as Xbox LIVE is a closed environment, it makes it more difficult to transition games which are patch heavy to the 360.
@kmcroc You never know, Microsoft might buckle if Acti-Blizzard say they won't release the game on their platform unless they make concessions :)
Take Final Fantasy XIV for example. That was never released on 360 due to Xbox LIVE being a 'closed environment'. I do hope they change their mind for this though, if it is ever released on consoles.
@kmcroc True, I have no doubt they'll try at least. Microsoft, though, are very stringent when it comes to things like patches. Given you have to get each patch approved before it goes on LIVE will hinder these sorts of things drastically on 360. Sony are known to be more open about updating and patches.
Personally, I'd love to see it come to as many platforms as possible, heck even the Wii if they could get it to work! The more people who get to experience these games the better; I just can't see Microsoft budging on their stance (unless a boat load of money is thrown at them, which is entirely possible).
"He concluded that there are a "number of issues" that Blizzard would have to solve in order to bring its games over to consoles, with some of his concerns involving the ability to patch effectively and inevitably add expansions."
That rules it out being on 360 then. With more and more MMOs being released on PS3 as Sony are more willing to work around updates, etc. while Microsoft remain stuck in the mud, my bet would it being released on PS3 and PC only.
