I'm a little upset that there aren't any awesome games to get until March, but this does give me some time to work through the games I have. I wish The Godfather, was coming out in Feb. At least I'd have something new to play, but right now it seems like everything is coming out in March. Not sure I'm gonna have enough money to get all of these games.
As long as gamers charge ridiculous amounts of money for game items and mounts start costing in upwards of 5000g (looking at you WoW), then people will simply buy gold to get what they want. I know that games kinda need some type of economy, but it's something that drives people to pay for in-game currency.
Most of us MMO players don't like it, but at the end of the day, it's all about convenience and gamers are just weak. :(
Burnt, I don't think any company is forced to use motion controls...but think about it like this. Why did someone purchase a Wii? Let's face it, mainly for motion controls. Therefore, not supporting that part of it defeats the whole point of getting a Wii in the first place. If you don't like that, then don't use them, or don't purchase a Wii. But there are MANY people out there who are more than happy to try them out.
I've come to the conclusion that hardcore gamers have lost sight of something important. There is no way in hell that higher resolution, better AI, and physics adds any fun to a game. If that's the case, we can all simply watch tech demos and be satisfied. But the bottom line is that games are about interactivity. Without that, we're just watching movies. Last time I checked how well we interact with the game determines how "fun" a game is. Years from now we'll look back on what we're playing now when the graphics are trumped by something better and the only thing left is the interactivity. Which is how we determine whether or not a game is classic.
I used to think that graphics add to the experience, but I'm starting to think that's just not the case. At the end of the day, graphics will get old and dated. How we relate to the game at that time is determined by the gameplay. Why is a game like Super Mario Bros. still a classic? Or why do people still play and purchase the games of days gone by? It's not because of the graphics or resolution. It's about the gameplay.
Reading threads like this make me sad, because the focus should be on gameplay. And if you think about it, what will define games that we will ultimate play on a "holodeck" type device? The gameplay and how we interact with the game. You can bet we won't be using joysticks, gamepads, or wii remotes. I would go as far to say the experience will be 100% gesture based. I think we're looking at the first step down that road right now.
I'll admit that the hardcore games aren't there for the Wii. We all knew this before it was released. But I have a feeling there will be lots of games the hardcore guys are going to want in the near future. My guess is there are so many Wii games in development currently, some of them are going to pique the curiosity of the hardcore crowd. Looking at games like The Godfather for both the PS3 and Wii, I see more buzz for the Wii version. Once online games hit for the Wii, it will be a whole different ballgame for all of the consoles.
Honestly, I'm curious to see how it will turn out. It can only mean good things for everyone.
MosquitoControl, you're clinging to the old way of doing things. Gaming has to change at some point. I don't know about anyone else, but for me, it's been dry and dead for a long time. I've purchased my obligatory Final Fantasy, Black, and Dead Or Alive, but I've been bored. Each new console is just the same thing over again with pretty pictures. Don't get me wrong, I like nice graphics, but when you pick up a game and know the button layout without ever having to read the manual, then that's not really good.
I see the Wii as the new way to go. A new level of interactivity. I fully expect the hardcore guys like me to resist every step of the way. If this thing takes off, then gaming as we know will be put on it's ear, and you can bet that Sony and Microsoft will have their own motion sensing controllers next time around. It's just the evolution of gaming. How many of us complained when we went from joysticks to gamepads? How many resisted when we went from d-pads to analog sticks? I know I fought hard to avoid using gamepads when I was kid...
Link To the Past is a good game. I'll probably be picking this up later today when I get home from work. I'm kind of shocked that there is only one game up there currently, but hopefully they'll add more stuff later today.
Also, there's nothing wrong with paying $8 for a game on the VC. The game is well worth it and on top of that...LEGAL. Sure we can emulate and steal a copy, but for those of us who like paying for our games, it's a good way to go.
This game looks pretty cool. I liked SSX: On Tour, though I found SSX 3 to be better. If this game is anywhere near as good as SSX 3 with some freedom in moving around the map, then I'll be happy. Good controls is also a good thing. I'm looking forward to this game and The Godfather: Blackhand Edition. Let's hope that EA can pull through with a good product.
