My bud and I duo'd during the beta weekend - the duoing mechanics were great - everything you need to pick up or do is shared properly - we even did the escort/protect type quests and had no problem. EVEN GATHERING NODES CAN BE DUO'D!!!
I was warrior, my bud was an archer. The rooting in place is a common tenant of just about any 3d fighting game or games like Ninja Gaiden or God of War - so I don't see it as a mechanic problem so much as a reflection of skill. Yes, I died a few times as warrior, but I knew it was my fault, and did better the second time around.
So for example to get the "Keitonotachi +3" you'll need to:
Do a special move 100 times against a monster that gives xp. Do a another special move 200 times against a monster that gives xp. Do yet another special move 300 times against only "bird type" monsters that gives xp. Do yet another special move 500 times against only "vermin type" monsters that gives xp. Do yet another special move 300 times as the "finishing blow" against only "beast type" monsters that gives xp. Do yet another special move 500 times against "amorph type" monsters that gives xp. Oh yes, and for this one it doesn't count unless you do more than 400 points of damage with the move. And then finally if your brain isn't lobotomized yet, do one more special move 500 times against "vermin type" monsters that gives xp. And yes, it doesn't count unless you do more than 400 points of damage with the move.
Then you get your end-game sword. Congratulations.

Bethesda is successful in their own right, and have nothing to prove or live up to, but credit where credit is due - and in this case - its due to Ultima.

Feb 15th 2012 1:37AM (Massively)100% agree. For my bud and I we gathered nodes for the regen buff, and that's how our duo of warrior + archer stayed healed.
