Dojo update: A new approach
Feb 6th 2008 5:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Knowing that information about new games just gets blasted around ad nauseum on the internet, I was worried I would have to stop looking up gaming news, full stop, simply so as to at least have some kind of a surprise when I finally get my Brawl on. Thanks for thinking of us stuck out here, cold and Brawlless. :(
Best of 2007: Worst attempt at a cash-in
Dec 19th 2007 7:05PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Hello. I realise you're probably quite busy and all, but I have just one small request to make. I don't ask for much - as a matter of fact, I've never asked you for anything before - but I feel this is extremely important, and you're the only person/deity for the job.
Could you please instantaneously smite from existence every single bastard that decides they're going to make another minigame collection for the Wii in the next three years? We're all getting quite sick and tired of them, and we'd really rather they not waste the time and resources of quite capable software developers on derivative drivel like Carnival Games and EA Playground.
Cheers,
Fletch
Rock Band and turkey: a Thanksgiving family test
Nov 24th 2007 6:41PM (Joystiq)Man... Your parents are AWESOME! :D
Also - prog rock band = totally sweet. Rock Band is sadly lacking in Pink Floyd.
Wii get, part deux: Because launch day was about more than consumerism
Nov 20th 2007 4:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Amazingly enough, we had a few drop-ins during the evening that just stopped for a chat, in addition to a few other people who turned up to wait before midnight. Then the owners showed up, we all got our Wii's, and there was much cheering and rejoicing to be had.
Anyway, the next day, I was playing a bit of Wii sports; exploring beyond Tennis and Bowling, I was enjoying a round of golf, when my Dad returned home from work. Now, a bit of history here - my Dad is not a gamer. He does not play games. The last game I played with him was Mario Kart 64, in 1998. So you'll understand that I was absolutely floored when he walks in, sees me swing and smack a ball down the fairway, does a quick double take and says: "Are you playing golf?"
me: "Yup."
Dad:"... Can I have a go?"
me:
That's when I knew there was something special going on. Thought I'd share. :D

Oz and NZ to Nintendo: enough!
Sep 6th 2007 6:57PM (Joystiq Nintendo)We have always gotten games late, save the odd one or two. We've still not seen Trauma Centre for Wii here in Australia, for one thing.
It's kind of understandable when you consider that Nintendo of Australia is mainly a warehousing company consisting of probably about 20 staff total. But that's still a really poor excuse.
And here was I thinking that with Nintendo now apparently treating Australia as a separate region that we might stop being treated as the European regions poor, retarded cousin and actually see an improvement in release dates and range. Perhaps that's too much to expect. :(
