The price was driven up by parties who would never use the oil buying up the rights to use the oil, diminishing the supply of those rights and increasing the price for those parties who needed to have the right to actually receive oil secured in advance. Without ever actually handling a single drop of oil you can extract unearned profits from legitimate users.
There is a case to be made that this could have some of the same environmental benefits as a tax, but all the revenue from this illegitimate taxation is taken in the form of private profits rather than going toward public services. Also, it is unsustainable...it's a bubble that is dependent upon having a steady stream of participants to keep it going. A tax you at least can be fairly sure what the cost will be...with this, it could end at any time, and for companies like airlines that uncertainty could mean the difference between record profits and bankruptcy.
If gas is 5 bucks a gallon in a year, it will not be because of peak oil. It will not be because of China or India. It will be because of speculators. And the price will drop at some point when that bubble bursts again. The great thing about oil as a bubble/freestyle pyramid scheme is that it isn't like comic books or tulips...this is not something that companies have the option to do without.
The 599 is the ugliest Ferrari in the entire time I've been on this earth. And maybe ever.
The Renault Twingo is nothing special as concept cars go...or even production cars. Surely they could have found something more interesting than that.
The RK Coupe...for "special series" they pick something barely distinguishable from an unspectacular-looking production car?
"Crossover" is hard to argue. They pretty much all look shitty. The only way to argue it is how you define the category. Same with MPV. But IMO, that Ford thing they had on Top Gear this year beats it.
Coupe-Convertibles: Peugeot 206CC. How was there even any question of this? (Just because it wasn't a new design this year? Or because just about all reports are that it is a POS?)
Coupes: WTF...like there isn't a WORLD of better-looking coupes than that, even without getting up into supercar territory. To name a few: Jaguar XK, Scion TC, Hyundai Tiburon, BMW 6 series, Audi TT, Mazda RX-8...
"Spider": I guess a case can be made for the Alfa, despite the godawful grille. They look pretty good if I'm not wearing my glasses. Kind of like the '70s Camaro.
Followup: As it turns out, Christians also offended by Top Gear holiday special
