New Xbox Dashboard adds updated piracy measures
Nov 4th 2010 2:42PM (Joystiq)False. Show me a single reliable source where someone has gotten on Live with a JTAG'd box and did not have the latest dashboard installed. When people were running XBR and the 8995 dash was current, they could get on Live. As soon as 9199 came out, those people were blocked from Live until they changed over to freeBOOT based off of 9199. It's the same way now. Until a new rebooter is released for the current dash, no JTAG boxes are making their way onto Live.
Also, when you take a JTAG'd console onto Live, you have all of four hours before the system is banned. Yes, you can "unban" it by flashing a new keyvault to it and essentially making it another system (much like flashing a new EEPROM in the original Xbox days). However, you can't just generate valid keyvaults out of thin air, and the cheapest you'll be able to buy one is $30 or so. This is why my the console I JTAG'd stays off of XBL.

Halo: Reach Noble Map Pack coming Nov. 30
Oct 14th 2010 6:39PM (Joystiq)My point is that the Forge World maps offer nothing that the community couldn't have done and would've done. It's pretty obvious they take a lot less work, as well. Like I said, no custom lighting, no texture work, no new models for the BSP or map objects, etc. The maps don't have location names and they're all pretty ugly thanks to the repetitive grey Forge items being used for everything.
@maveric101
That's what Bungie claims, but the maps certainly don't feel like they were designed for MP. Sword Base and Board Walk simply don't play well and I could dissect the other maps if I had to. As for Sanctuary, stand at one snipe and look down plasma through ring two to the other snipe. The framerate will drop. If you scope in with a sniper or there's stuff happening, it'll drop to the single digits. It's well-documented and part of the reason MLG is using a different remake instead of the one Bungie shipped.

Oct 14th 2010 11:40AM (Joystiq)Because it's something anyone can make and doesn't take nearly the time, effort, or polish that real maps take. No texture, lighting, modeling/BSP work, etc. To top it off, they tend to have framerate lag issues, especially the Sanctuary remake.
