They were timing the ZR1 when it was testing on the Ring the last time. It was lapping in the 7min 40s. However, the track was slightly wet. Its not like people time the Lexus and GT-R but not the Corvette or other cars.
Its not cheating. The GTR that got 7:29 is the US-spec GTR; which has minor tuning like stiffer engine mounts etc compared to the Japanese model. However, the updates are also going into newer Japanese-spec models as well. The Euros-spec is suppose to be further updated when they release it in 2009 (which isn't surprising since its a different model year).
Actually, the "innovation" comment was taken out of context; Stringer was referring to the display market and OLEDs, and NOT the console market.
The quote is originally from the Financial Times article, being that there is no room for confusion I'm not sure why its being quoted this way.
FTA: "The next cycle is actual innovation," said Sir Howard, pointing to the company’s new organic light-emitting diode (OLED) televisions, which are just 3mm thick.
"When you look at OLED, your impulse is to say 'wow'. We need that reaction from people at Sony … it's a statement of confidence, that there is a path to somewhere else," he said."
Not all about power-to-weight ratio when lap-times are concerned.
In reality, for a handling course mechanical grip is one of the most important aspects of reducing lap times. Tires, suspension setup, and aerodynamics go a long way.
However, this whole "Carrera GT" spiel is started by KGP (automotive spy photographers) not Nissan.
If you look at the FCC filing that is linked to by Joystiq, the guitar uses AA batteries.
The USB acts as a base station (look at the "user manual" under the FCC page). This doesn't use Bluetooth, probably the same setup as the PC & Mac Guitar Hero 3. The 360 doesn't have standard USB ports so isn't compatible with this method.
