Given how much steam the PS2 still has left in it -- there are a LOT Of games publishers are still planning to bring to it (and thank goodness given the PS3 as practically nothing beyond 1-2 excellent games) -- removing this practically means you're gutting one of your best selling points.
Pretty disappointed overall. With MGS4 and now FF13 delayed til '08, this was probably one of the biggest games I was looking forward to. But the demo doesn't have me convinced it's that good.
Graphically, it's okay -- but it's not as spectacular as I thought it'd be.
For everyone trying to hype this thing up as a game ONLY capable on the PS3, I'm not so sure. I'm no 360 fanboy, but this game looks quite do-able on MS' console. Also, don't forget MS had first right of refusal on this title. Ninja Theory brought it to them and well, they passed. Either MS thought it wasn't going to be very good or they had a sour taste in their mouth from Kung Fu Chaos.
Earlier, I was convinced MS was dumb to pass on making this exclusive. Now, however, having tried the demo, I'm wondering whether this is killer app material or just a decent 'filler' title. Not awesome, not bad -- but okay.
Sure, it's just a demo, so I'll wait til I read some more reviews. If reviews turn out poor (which I'm beginning to worry they will), I may wait and go after Naughty Dog's Uncharted instead.
Ahhh -- sold out? I smell a fanboy. There are mountains of PS3s at my Target, Best Buy and Circuit City. Take Best Buy for instance, my stores lock up a boatload of new release games and consoles in cabinets. The Wii and 360 are sitting in there. They've got too many PS3s that there's over a dozen of them in a circle right near the game isle in plain view. That's not going to change due to this cut. Like I've said before, this price cut is practically invisible to the consumer -- there was always a $500 model. Adding a few more GBs isn't going to change matters for the avg. consumer. The hardcores have already bought it.
honestly, isn't the PSP all but dead? Publishers aren't supporting it very much anymore, and there's hardly any indication of a killer app coming anytime soon. It's become the port haven many of us didn't want it to be. Why play uglier versions of PS2 games on the go? And for that matter, games that are meant to be console experiences?
The PSP looked great on paper, but execution-wise, the market doesn't seem all that interested ...
And don't get me started on the money wasted on those UMDs ... The PSP is nothing more than a larger portable music player; with iPod, what good is it?
I think it's pretty much certain MGS4 will be coming to 360. We all know the system is capable since Kojima let drop in an interview some time ago that the 360 can run MGS4 with no problems. Given Sony's inability to manufacture the PS3 in large numbers,it almost guarantees that PS3 penetration is going to lag behind 360 well into next year. And unless the price drops, which it prob. won't in late 2007, 360 will keep the edge. If you're Konami, there's little market sense in keeping a game exclusive for a console that'll prob. only have a fraction of 360's penetration. What'll be interesting is how soon MGS4 comes out for 360 -- will it be like GTA4 this time?
Calm down, people. I don't think the GCN version is canned in the US. I do think Nintendo will offer it online similar to what they're doing in Japan. That would help them cut retail costs since face it, GCN space isn't *really* going to exist in stores past Nov. 19.
I've been a Nintendo fan for quite some time -- have about 40+ titles on my GCN (though my PS2 and XBX collections are each slightly higher). I'm not entirely sold on the Wii, and most of the games I'm excited about aren't out til some time (i.e. Brawl and Galaxy).
Finally, Nintendo doing this could be a PR nightmare. Gaming editors from EGM, 1UP, etc. have continued to bemoan the forced application of the Wiimote on this iteration of Zelda, and even Nintendo have suggested that games like TP would be among the "last" generation of games to be this big. In other words, this is a GCN game built for the GCN, and it belongs on there -- even if it's released to little or no fanfare.
Nintendo taking the game off retail is a sure way to ensure only the diehard fans seek it out, and here's hoping that Nintendo honors its promise by releasing this title intact. And on that note, I hope Nintendo doesn't chop-shop the GCN version; it should be identical in gameplay and content -- to withhold anything from it would be doing a great disservice to the Gamecube faithful -- many of whom have staying with Nintendo through thick and thin.
I can't believe Sony is making this mistake. Sure, 360 had only 400k units at launch but keep in mind that Sony is coming into this party after 360 this time around, and the news/circumstances are simply not as lined up for Sony as they were for the PS2-Xbox rivalry.
The fact is the technology is more even, the competition much smarter, and the stakes doubly higher -- for Sony to botch this launch (which it sounds like they have) spells nightmare whichever way you look at it.
500k units and barely enough to cover off Europe in Mar. A LOT of people are going to grap a 360 and/or Wii, and that means PS3 won't really be able to do much until holiday 2007.
HUGE mistake. Knowing MS, this is good enough news for them to go for the jugular -- look for smart combo deals this holiday on the 360. Package that console with Gears of War and watch 360s fly off the shelf. Of course, there's that Wii thing, too ;-)
"Absolutely no-one expected the PSP to beat the DS, so Nintendo haven't proved anything."
You're joking, right? Practically the entire industry scoffed and scratched their heads when Iwata-san unveiled the DS several years ago. The whole press -- and I mean people like Matt from IGN, Dan from EGM, and the folks at Gamespot were skeptical how well the DS would do against the then perceived media powerhouse of the PSP.
The DS' success was surely mentioned by some, but I think it's a misconception to think that the majority held the view that it was going to be the success it has now become.
The same skepticism now surrounds the Wii. No one is banking on it taking the world by storm -- proof: check all those professional analyst reports. While a DS storm by no means predicts Wii's future, it does bode well for Nintendo that gamers -- casual or not -- appear to be gravitating towards different gameplay mechanics.
i doubt this to be true -- then again, from a practical level, EVERY console has more power than what is seen in initial screens. But in terms of GREAT hidden power, the wii doesn't have it. Period. Fanboys, stop dreaming.
the wii is essentially a gamecube on steroids. the system isn't that powerful, folks. Why is Nintendo selling it at $250 -- well, b/c they're going to profit out the gate. I can't find the links, but IBM/ATI commented on the system and said it's very stable -- but it's nothing like the CELL or 360's dual processors. Everyone knows that isn't where Ninty's dropping its R&D investment.
Now will Wii games look better later on? Sure. Look at Zelda TP now on GCN vs. how it looked a year ago. Basically, I expect Wii games to be no better looking than RE4, which honestly is good enough for me. I'm not buying a Wii for graphics -- and I would be comfortable saying 90% of people who do aren't, either.
That said, this is one of the reasons I'm not buying a Wii off the bat. Nintendo will be able to drop the price fairly soon -- I just can't pay $200-$250 for what is a Gamecube repackaged into a slimmer box. Flame me if you want, but outside of that controller, that's what it is.
I think this is def. possible, and very likely. I'd actually be surprised if DOA didn't find its way to PS3. Itagaki not only loves power, but he's went on record stating the 360's decision to run standard DVDs is a major problem that will eventually limit his capacities. Again, this isn't to say he hates MS, but it does express his concern for the console.
Also, don't forget DOA2:HC did make it to PS2, despite it being graphically downgraded (and arguably uglier than its Dreamcast iteration).
Tecmo has an odd way of settling its exclusives, but with development costs hitting the roof, increasing penetration will either mean releasing a game on multiple platforms (be it at release or far apart to give some sense of periodic exclusivity) OR demanding more money from console manufacturers to keep popular games exclusive.
I have a feeling that the latter option won't be too popular for much longer, esp. since costs to make games for first party houses will eat up a lot of investment dollars.
DOA4 or some director's cut will make it to PS3, but if it does, expect the same release on 360, too. Oh, and don't expect it on Revolution. Itagaki is not going to bring the title to Nintendo. Not a bad thing for the Big N, though. Original Nintendo games on Revolution will prob. be the only key games on the console -- and folks, DOA ain't one of 'em.

Rumor: DOA coming to PS3
