How would you change the PlayStation 3?

Apr 27th 2007 4:56PM (Engadget)
1) Get Apple to release itunes for the PS3. That takes care of their media center problems. it gives them a movie and tv store. A full music shop. and access to all podcasts.
1a) Let me buy downloadable PS3 games from the iTMS. let me buy User created DLC from the iTMS. I want to make money from the content I create, even if it is small change.
2. Start charging for podcasts. Lets build an internet economy. People are happy to produce stuff when they're paid.
3. Create Wii remote knockoff. The remote and the remote API are the only thing Nintendo has going for it. Take that advantage away from it and the graphics and storage superiority of the PS3 will allow developers to create some truly magnificent games. Props to Nintendo for making a great controller. Ninty, Make it for every console sell mario on every platform as DLC, you'll make a mint.
4. Package the PS3 with every Bravia HDTV you sell. Hell make a braviA that has the PS3 built in. Deals Deals Deals.
5. Make sure online stays free.
6. Openly start to question if Microsoft wouldn't make more money for it's shareholders if it quit hardware development and strictly went to software development. 60 million PS2 copies of Halo 1 2 and 3 is a big chunk of change. Every time Phil is asked what he thinks of Microsoft.
7. Bluray Spiderman 1,2,and 3 pack in for Black Friday Thanksgiving Day sale.
8. Free Bluray Spiderman 3 download for every existing PS3 owner. Reward my confidence in you.
9. Throw in a free movie or TV show once in a while.
10. Back to the knockoff wiimote. Don't be embarrassed by Nintendo's shown superiority. Better yet License it from them. Port the API, Let mii's visit HOME. Bring Mario to the PS3. Longshots, I know but the money that Nintendo could make would be phenomnal.

Sony considers incentives for commercial PS3 use

Apr 11th 2007 4:55PM (Joystiq)
Half of you are getting paid to post on Joystiq. Why should it surprise you to get paid for CPU cycles?
And with this this is my last post on Joystiq. The griefers, the paid Microsoft shills and Nintendo fanbois who don't know any better have won. Joystiq used to be good a year ago. The poster were real people. The reviewers weren't writing like they owed Microsoft a favour for the laptops or whatever.
but when it comes to an article about using the power of a computer for the benefit of mankind, and you find a way to write a completely juvenile article and essentially find fault with their method. You are no longer reporting the news, You're insinuating yourself into the story. Shameful.
So long Joystiq. Once you were great, but now you're not even worth an RSS feed. I'm sure I'll read about you being taken over or slowly shutting down before next Christmas.

Hello Kitty -- now in iPod car charger / FM transmitter form

Apr 5th 2007 4:02PM (Engadget)
It has become Crystal clear to me now that for the XBOX 360 to any any inroads in Japan there will have to be a special edition "Hello Kitty" 360. Maybe even, "Be still my Heart" the "Hello Kitty Elite".

Xbox 360 Elite spied in production

Mar 26th 2007 5:43PM (Engadget)
Looks like the Xbox is transforming into a PS3.
High price. $479. Check
Black. Check
Adding wifi. $100
Adding HD DVD playback $200
Free Online? We'll keep the Cheque.

Being a beta tester for the white 360 and paying for the privilege. Priceless. For me.
The beta testers, they paid through the nose.

1 good game. 2 to come. Then what?

PS3 has taken over the Folding@Home community!

Mar 26th 2007 5:20PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The folding at home client is great. but I'd love to see a few additions.
The map should be GPS accurate instead of just the local ISP exchange. I'd be willing to put in my GPS co-ordinates so my star could shine. If all my F@H team mates also showed up (coloured) that would be very cool as well. It's oddly reassuring to see all those lights spinning on that globe. I feel like I'm part of something bigger.

Microsoft uses beer to illustrate Xbox 360 cost advantage

Mar 23rd 2007 2:10PM (Joystiq)
And when they return the empties, they can pay for online.

Where's the HD DVD player? OOOOPs.
What's Nintendo going to do. Send over a keg.

Ten things to make the PS3 worth buying

Mar 13th 2007 10:46AM (Joystiq)
Let ordinary people make money off the system. With the developement of Home Sony has created de facto an Economy. Let people profit from that economy. With Games like Little Big Planet LBP the ability to create content is part of the game. But if I spend 10 hours putting together a level it would be a great positive if i were to be able to make a few pennies from that work. 50 cent to $1 level micro-payment transactions. Where the developers posted the level. received a fee for hosting the level and shared the profit with the user/creator. The amount of content and playability that would be created for any game would be immense. The community created would be huge. But more importantly it would be motivated.

PlayStation Home -- there's no place quite like it

Mar 2nd 2007 3:07PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I love this idea. More a "trophy room" than anything else. Maybe they can extend it to show album covers of every album you have and Blue ray covers of the movies you've watched. There's a Mac program that does this, it's kinda nice. I'd like to go over to someone else's "House" and see they won the Stanley Cup 07 and the Super Bowl 08. A horse named Argo, Sepheroth doll. A slime.

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on February 21st, 2007

Feb 22nd 2007 12:58PM (Engadget HD)
Every movie is someone's favorite movie. So this talk of "shitty" movies is a bit immature. Give it three months and when people start seeing twice as many movies in the Bluray movie bin at Best Buy that will influence their player buying decision more than anything else. Already the Best Buy Bluray rack is getting crowded at my Best Buy. They are going to need to expand it soon. And I still can't find a PS3 on the shelf (Downtown Toronto not Nowheresville, Idaho). Maybe they have them in the back, but what retailer keeps >$600 merchandise away from people who will buy it.

One PS3 store display hides a terrible secret [update 1]

Feb 15th 2007 4:10PM (Joystiq)
At least the store is getting some use from their 360. Next stop door opener. ha. It's like the sune boxes being used to prop up a display of iPods. Or maybe with the rumoured HDMI port and the HD DVD expansion and the change to black this is what the 360 aspires to be one day in the near future. Keep dreamin 360 keep dreaming.
