Could they have chosen somebody better for this spot? Definitely. But as bad of a main character Vaan was, maybe they might actually make him somewhat good in this game. And also, we aren't being forced to play as him. If he sucks in this game also, well enjoy killing him to level up your characters.
Enjoying the much more challenging Demon's Souls while everything stays on black world tendency for the next 2 days. Sure I'm getting my ass handed to me but at least I can give people hell as a black phantom.
