Xbox 360 PayPal update arrives right on schedule ... in some territories
May 19th 2011 10:51AM (Joystiq)Well.. at least for a week or 2.
New Xbox 360 update incompatible with some models, MS offering replacements [update]
May 18th 2011 10:01AM (Joystiq)If you pull off the front plate of your xbox and shine a torch thru the little hole and see a red wire it'll likely be a Samsung drive.
I guess the extra gig is a good thing on the disk but the anti piracy has already been worked around even the write protected chips on some of the new slims have been bypassed.
At this stage so far in the game I would be more concerned with locking down the next console rather than continue throwing money at something they can't even slow down any more never mind fix.
New Xbox Dashboard adds updated piracy measures
Nov 4th 2010 2:10PM (Joystiq)The skillset required to flash a dvd rom with the tools / tutorials available on the web is very user friendly and really requires very little grey matter. The best anti piracy move MS ever did was make the Liteon drives post summer 09 require a bit more jiggery pokery with cutting tracks and solder, tho new probes and stick on kits are killing that off too.
The slim took very little time to get round, but then again MS didn't really do anything new to stop it. As echoed above I hear the slim will be moddable by xmas for the general public.
Sony had a good run there, until recently and it's not like MS are known for their security on.. well on anything really.
New Xbox Dashboard adds updated piracy measures
Nov 4th 2010 1:38PM (Joystiq)Sometimes new dashes just mean a few tweaks here and there. Was it worth the money to develop it?? most likely not. I guess they have to be seen to try tho.
Without the right or wrong aspect of it - having a modded box is a great thing for a lot of people, they get games early, practically free and usually escape the ban hammer for a good while (depending on time of year) In fact a lot of modders have a legit console for those very rare instances when the game is actually worth the money.
The failed check results in a dirty disc error, but the same error from a genuine disc does not cause any form of ban - just to be clear.
MS did however dodge the lawsuit when they realised that hey had no legal right to impair the function of the console outside of banning it from live, which is why we saw all the crippled xbox hdd installs / saves restored with the last dash / system update.
